What you can expect

Spend the day discovering rich history and architecture on this excursion to 2 fascinating German cities. Wiesbaden and Mainz are known for hot springs and the invention of the printing press, respectively, but these destinations offer a wealth of sights and landmarks to explore.

Depart from Frankfurt with an experienced guide. Your first destination is Wiesbaden, the capital of the state of Hesse. Picturesque villas, stately buildings, and grand promenades give off an air of elegance. Venture up Neroberg Hill for spectacular views of the city below. Scope out the Russian Orthodox Church of St. Elizabeth, also known as the “Greek Chapel”, with its 5 golden domes rising above the trees.

Cross the Rhine River to Mainz, a city that dates back to the ancient Romans. Baroque buildings recall the days of the Electors of Mainz, who ruled the city during the Holy Roman Empire. Stroll through the old city centre to scope out its spacious squares, winding alleys, and half-timbered houses. At St. Stephan's Church, admire the blue splendour of Marc Chagall's famous glass windows. End your tour with a visit to Mainz Cathedral, a 1,000-year-old Romanesque masterpiece.

To enrich your experience, choose to either ride Wiesbaden's historic Nerobergbahn cable railway or visit Mainz's Gutenberg Museum, which features extensive printing collections and insight into Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press.
