Overview

Begin the experience with a transfer from the hotel to the Chiclayo Cathedral, one of the city’s most emblematic churches and a place closely tied to the life of Pope León XIV, who spent many years living in this region. Continue to the district of Eten to visit the Santa María Magdalena Church, a key site in his spiritual journey and personal legacy. Then head to Monsefú to explore the San Pedro Church, another meaningful location in the pastoral path of the current pontiff. Conclude the tour with a return to the hotel in Chiclayo, carrying a deeper, more personal understanding of the man who now leads the Church from Rome, but whose roots remain in northern Peru.

Iglesia Santa Maria - Catedral de Chiclayo

The Cathedral of Chiclayo, also known as Santa María Cathedral, is the main Catholic church in the city, located in the central Plaza de Armas. Its construction began in 1869 and was completed in 1939. Built in a neoclassical style, it features a symmetrical façade with columns, arches, and domes. Inside, it has three naves, Marian stained-glass windows, and the image of the Cristo Pobre (Poor Christ). It is a religious and cultural symbol of Chiclayo and has been recognised as a Cultural Heritage of the Nation since 1986.
Parroquia Santa María Magdalena - Ciudad Eten

The Church of Santa María Magdalena in Eten, founded in the 16th century, is an important religious site in Lambayeque, Peru. It is best known for the Eucharistic miracle of 1649, when the Child Jesus reportedly appeared in a consecrated host during the Corpus Christi celebration. The original church was buried by desert sands, though some of its remains still exist. The current parish, built in the 1970s, serves as a centre of faith and pilgrimage, especially during the festivities of the Divine Child of the Miracle and Saint Mary Magdalene.
Parroquia San Pedro - Diocesis de Chiclayo.
  • 30m
  • Admission ticket included
The San Pedro Church of Monsefú, built in 1889, is the main parish of the district. It features colonial and republican architectural styles, with twin towers, an old clock, and a curved-molding façade. Inside, it houses religious images and the revered altar of Jesus Nazareno Cautivo. While it is a cultural and religious symbol of the town, the church shows some signs of deterioration.
