What you can expect

Begin your calligraphy experience with a warm welcome and a brief introduction to the basic tools used in calligraphy, such as brushes, ink, inkstones, and paper. Learn about the meaning and use of each tool to deepen your understanding of calligraphy.

Next, focus on correcting your posture. Discover the importance of maintaining the correct posture in calligraphy, including how to sit, straighten your back, and position your arms when holding the brush.

Then, prepare the ink. Experience the traditional process of grinding solid ink to create ink. Pour water into the inkstone and grind the ink in a circular motion. This step is essential for calming the mind and preparing to write.

Learn how to hold the brush. Discover the basic technique for holding the brush, which is different from holding a pencil. Practice using your fingers, wrists, and applying the right amount of pressure.

Choose a kanji character you like and practice writing it. Follow a model and focus on the brush movements and shapes. Repeat the practice to prepare for creating your artwork.

Finally, create your artwork. Write the kanji you practised on your chosen item, such as a paper, fan, or hanging scroll.
