    Polonnaruwa, also known as Pulasthi Nagaram, was the second capital of ancient Sri Lanka after Anuradhapura. It remained the country’s most important city for over two centuries, until the capital was moved to Dambadeniya in 1284 AD. The kings who ruled this remarkable city contributed greatly to its culture and religion, leaving behind impressive temples, monuments, and architectural masterpieces that still stand today.
