Embark on an unforgettable journey through Hokkaido! Depart in the morning from a convenient meeting point in central Sapporo and set off on a memorable trip across a wonderland of volcanic marvels.
The first stop is the Kyogoku Meisui Park (also known as “Fukidashi Park”), located at the foot of Mount Yotei in Hokkaido. It is a treasure bestowed upon this land by nature. As one of Japan's “100 Best Natural Waters,” the spring water here comes from the snow and rain that fall on Mount Yotei, also known as “Ezo Fuji.” After decades of seeping and filtering through the ground, the water bubbles up naturally, pure and sweet, rich in minerals.
Afterwards, we head to the Lake Toya Observation Deck, which is the perfect spot to admire this most famous caldera lake in Japan. Standing on the observation deck, the entire Lake Toya spreads out before your eyes like a giant, brilliant blue mirror — the water clear and serene, reflecting the outlines of the sky and the surrounding mountains. As you stand at the Lake Toya Observation Deck, you can truly feel the magnificent lake scenery shaped by volcanic activity, silently guarded by the distant Mount Yotei in the background.
Next, visit the lakeside “Lake Hill Farm”. This European-style ranch holds a special charm in winter. You can take a short break here, savour Hokkaido’s rich milk ice cream or a warm drink, and admire the tranquil beauty of Lake Toya from a different perspective, replenishing your energy for the journey ahead.
In the afternoon, you’ll visit the still-growing active volcano—“Showa Shinzan”. This mountain rose from flat ground during volcanic activity in the 1940s, and its unique lava dome formation remains visible today. At the foot of the mountain lies the “Showa Shinzan Bear Ranch”, a perfect window into understanding the “masters” of Hokkaido. You can observe adorable Hokkaido brown bears up close, watch them play and beg for food, and feel the wonder of harmony between humans and nature.(Admission fee is to be paid on-site)
The highlight of the trip is a visit to the famous “Noboribetsu Hell Valley”. Stepping into the valley feels like entering another world—a massive volcanic crater where white steam billows from countless vents, the air carries a faint scent of sulphur, and hot springs flow through snow-covered ravines, creating a striking contrast of ice and fire. Strolling along the well-maintained paths, you’ll deeply sense the fierce and powerful forces within the Earth. This dynamic geological wonder is sure to leave you in awe.
As evening falls, after a day filled with magnificent natural wonders, you’ll board the vehicle with unforgettable memories and a sense of wonder, comfortably returning to the original meeting point in Sapporo. This concludes a fulfilling and unforgettable journey exploring volcanoes and lakes. We look forward to meeting you on this remarkable adventure!
