What you can expect

You'll head northeast from Bariloche on National Route 237. The route crosses the Ñireco stream and the Ñirihuau river. Then, after reaching the springs of the Limay River in Lake Nahuel Huapi (border of the provinces of Río Negro and Neuquén), the route will take you along the banks of this river until you reach its confluence with the Trafúl River. You can make stops at the Limay River Amphitheatre, Villa Llanquin, and the Enchanted Valley, where you can see strange figures outlined by the rock formations.

A few kilometres later, you'll reach Confluencia and, from there, take the gravel Provincial Route 65. You'll drive through the valley of the Trafúl River, crossing some of its tributaries (the Cuyin Manzano River and the Minero River) until you reach Lake Trafúl, on whose shore you'll find the town of Villa Trafúl. At this destination, you can visit the main pier, stroll through its streets, and/or stop at a sweet shop.

Continuing west along the shore of Lake Trafúl, you'll reach Puerto Arrayán, the Catarata stream waterfall, and finally Paso Portezuelo, the gateway to the Seven Lakes Road (RN 40). The route continues south. After visiting lakes Correntoso and Espejo, you'll reach Villa La Angostura. There, you can stroll through the shopping centre and stop for lunch. You'll head back via the isthmus of the Quetrihue peninsula, taking in its unparalleled views and returning to Bariloche on Route 40.
