The Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek is a short but breathtaking journey into the Annapurna region, offering stunning views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli. This 4-day trek from Pokhara is ideal for those seeking adventure, panoramic mountain views, and diverse landscapes, from dense forests to alpine ridges.
Day 1: Drive from Pokhara to Kande & Trek to Forest Camp (6-7 hours, 2,550m)
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Kande (1,770m), the trek’s starting point. The trail ascends gradually through rhododendron and oak forests until reaching Australian Camp, a viewpoint offering the first glimpse of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
After a short break, continue trekking through Pothana and Deurali, where you'll enter the off-the-beaten-path section of Mardi Himal. A beautiful forest trail leads you to Forest Camp (2,550m), a quiet stop surrounded by dense jungle.
Day 2: Trek from Forest Camp to High Camp (6-7 hours, 3,580m)
Leaving Forest Camp, the trail climbs through moss-covered trees and alpine vegetation, offering occasional clearings with mountain views. After about 3 hours, you'll reach Low Camp (3,050m), where Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) appears dramatically close.
From here, the trek follows an open ridge, providing 360-degree panoramic views of the Himalayas. As you gain altitude, the landscape transforms from lush forests to grassy ridges, leading you to High Camp (3,580m). This is a prime viewpoint for sunset and sunrise over the Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre peaks.
Day 3: Hike to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m) & Trek to Badal Danda (3,210m) 6-7 hours.
The most thrilling day begins early with a hike to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m). The trail is steep and narrow, but the reward is breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Annapurna range, including Annapurna I, South, Machhapuchhre, and Hiunchuli.
After enjoying the spectacular scenery at the base camp, return to High Camp for breakfast. The descent continues to Badal Danda (3,210m), a beautiful ridge offering endless mountain views above the clouds.
Day 4: Trek from Badal Danda to Sidhing & Drive to Pokhara (5-6 hours)
The final day's trek descends through lush forests towards Sidhing (1,700m), an offbeat Gurung village rarely visited by trekkers. The change in landscape from alpine meadows to dense jungle is refreshing.
Upon reaching Sidhing, a private 4x4 vehicle will transfer you back to Pokhara, marking the end of an unforgettable trekking adventure.
