The bays of the Salento Adriatic are full of ancient stories, legendary landings, and unique natural scenery. Greeks, Eastern merchants, and Turkish raiders have traversed these coasts for centuries, leaving traces in local legends and place names. Some bays are still hidden among pine forests and cliffs today, but with an expert guide you can reach them and admire their authentic beauty.
Set off from Lecce for an active and scenic experience along one of the most evocative stretches of Salento. After a short introductory briefing and the adjustment of the e‑bikes with the bike manager, you will start the route on easy secondary roads towards the sea, crossing the Salento countryside with its ancient dry stone walls and centuries-old olive trees.
First stop in San Foca, a picturesque seaside resort in the Adriatic Salento, an iconic fishing village. Renowned for its fine sandy beaches, crystal-clear water, and its important marina, it has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag several times.
You will then cycle to Roca, home to an important Messapian archaeological site and an ancient fortified harbour. Here, the limestone cliffs and turquoise inlets have preserved stories of maritime trade, pilgrimages, and raids for centuries. A break allows you to take in these views where nature and history intertwine.
You will arrive at Torre dell'Orso, a bay linked to Greek myths and recognisable for the Two Sisters, two sea stacks shrouded in a legend that tells of an ancient family bond. Once a landing place where sailors from the Aegean would land, the area retains a wild and panoramic charm.
Here, after a lunch break, you head back to Lecce, giving you time to relive the variety of landscapes and stories encountered along the route.
