The Vale do Vouga line, better known as the Vouga line and nicknamed the Vale das Voltas line, in reference to its winding route, was a 140 km stretch of railway that connected the North line to the Dão line.

Planning began in 1877 with the aim of transporting the abundant agricultural production of the Vouga Valley to the greater Porto area, and it was finally inaugurated on February 5, 1914, establishing the long-awaited railway connection between Espinho and Viseu.

The first trains to serve the Vouga line were steam locomotives with wooden wagons and carriages. Later, the line was served by railcars, a situation that remained until its decommissioning in 1990 (between Sernada do Vouga and Viseu). It remains in memory as one of the most beautiful railway lines in Portugal, climbing from the coast to the mountains in a journey of curves, tunnels, and bridges, cutting through lush green valleys and hills.

On this bike tour, we invite participants to travel around 75 km, descending through a combination of farmland, vineyards, oak trees, and fabulous views over the Vouga River Valley and its end in Sernada do Vouga.

After picking you up in Coimbra by car, we head to the city of Viseu to start the tour. Preparation and briefing for the bike ride, then off you go. We will accompany you throughout the entire tour.

At the end, in Sernada do Vouga, we will be waiting to take you back to Coimbra.
