Begin your adventure with a drive from Aktau along the Aktau-Zhanaozen highway, passing through one of the world’s deepest depressions, 132 metres below sea level. Stop in the oil town of Zhanaozen to pick up any last-minute supplies before heading into the wilderness.
Continue to the Kyzylkup Tract, also known as Tiramisu, named after the Italian dessert. Admire the colourful, multi-layered clay formations and climb a mountain for a stunning view of the valley. Enjoy a lunch break before heading to Bozzhira, the jewel of Mangystau.
Descend to the middle plateau and drive through a chalk canyon. Walk through flint fields, where lucky visitors might find a fossilised shark tooth. Climb a mountain known as the aeroplane wing, with a 5-meter-wide cliff and a 200-meter drop, creating the sensation of standing on a wing.
Finally, visit the most picturesque spot in Bozzhira, reminiscent of Arizona’s landscapes. Stop at several viewpoints to take memorable photos before returning to Aktau.
