What you can expect

  • Step aboard Timppa Boat at Savonlinna Market Square Harbour and enjoy a relaxing one-hour cruise through the heart of Lake Saimaa. Timppa Boat is a family-run business with roots dating back to the 1970s. Originally founded by our grandfather, the business was revived in 2023 by the third generation after a complete renovation of the vessel. Today, even the fourth generation helps welcome guests on board.

As you leave the harbour, sit back and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere while cruising towards the historic Laitaatsilta canal, one of Finland's oldest inland waterways. Continue past the green Casino Islands before circling the medieval Olavinlinna Castle, one of the country's best-preserved castles and the symbol of Savonlinna. Along the way, hear local stories about the city's history, boating traditions, and life on Lake Saimaa.

The onboard café offers homemade doughnuts, our family's own smoked vendace—a local Lake Saimaa speciality—and a selection of craft beers from our local partner, Karvilan Panimo. These regional flavours make the cruise more than a sightseeing tour.

Families are welcome on board, with games and activities for younger guests. Children can also try steering the boat under the captain's supervision and use binoculars to search for the rare Saimaa ringed seal.

Whether you're visiting Savonlinna for the first time or returning to experience it from the water, Timppa Boat offers a relaxed and personal cruise hosted by a local family that has shared Lake Saimaa with visitors for generations.
