Stop 1: Civic Centre and Haymarket

Architectural Features: “The building is an example of modernist architecture, with its striking granite façade and elegant lines. Inside, you can find beautiful art deco features.”
Stop 2: Grey’s Monument
Walking to Monumentum: “As we walk, take note of the bustling shops and cafes that make up this vibrant area.”
At Grey’s Monument, we will talk about Charles Grey, the 2nd Earl Grey, known for the Reform Act of 1832. The monument, completed in 1838, stands at 130 feet tall.
This monument symbolises the city’s pride and its commitment to social progress. From this spot, you can see the busy city life and how it has evolved over the years.”
Stop 3: Royal Theatre and Grey Street
Walking to the Royal Theatre: Known for its magnificent Georgian architecture and top-notch performances, the Theatre Royal is one of the most prestigious theatres in the UK. It opened in 1788.
While walking along Grey Street, often celebrated as one of the most beautiful streets in the UK, we will look at the elegant architecture like the Arcade and enjoy the lively atmosphere.
Stop 4: Grainger town
We will travel to this area of the city, which includes the well-known indoor market, a hive of regional crafts, produce, and mouthwatering food vendors. It’s a great place to experience the local culture.

Stop 5: St. Nicholas Cathedral
After our stroll through the old site of Newcastle, we arrive at St. Nicholas Cathedral:
Dedicated to St. Nicholas, the patron saint of seamen, the cathedral reflects the city’s maritime history. Take a moment to appreciate its tranquil beauty and unique architecture.
Stop 6: Castle Keep and Black Gate
Walking to Castle Keep one of the oldest structures in Newcastle.
It served as a fortress and royal palace. It’s a vital part of Newcastle’s mediaeval history (the ticket is not included)
Just next door is the Black Gate, which was part of the city’s mediaeval defences. Its impressive architecture tells a storey of the city’s history
