This Mount Etna hike will offer you unforgettable experiences, following an adventurous itinerary to explore the highest volcano in Europe.
We will travel along the renowned Mareneve Road, which National Geographic has named one of the 70 most spectacular routes in the world, and on our way to the north side of the volcano, our expert guide will share stories, legends, and interesting facts about the towns around Etna and the volcano itself.
Before starting the hike, we will stop at the mountain lodge at an altitude of 1,500 metres (4,921 feet), where you can enjoy a coffee and get ready for the hike, with hiking shoes provided free of charge if needed.
The adventure begins with an exploration of the area affected by the massive eruption of October 27, 2002, which destroyed the Piano Provenzana ski facilities and much of the Pineta Ragabo pine forest. We will hike along nature trails, surrounded by pine trees, birch trees, and lava flows, until we reach the lateral craters, where breathtaking views will leave you speechless.
Your Etna experience concludes with a visit to the Grotta dei Ladroni, a fascinating lava slide tunnel. Equipped with helmets and torches, we will enter the heart of this natural formation to discover its history and mysterious allure.
After the hike, we will stop for lunch at Chalet Clan dei Ragazzi, where you can choose between a €10 menu, which includes a sandwich, a drink, and a dessert, or a €15 menu with bruschetta, a first course, a drink, and coffee.
In the afternoon, the adventure continues towards the Alcantara Gorges, passing through picturesque Sicilian villages such as Castiglione di Sicilia, known for its vineyards and fine Etna DOC wine.
Once at the Gorges, we will explore the captivating basalt walls shaped over centuries by the erosion of the Alcantara River, a place unlike any other in the world where nature reveals itself in all its beauty.
