Activity itinerary

Mirador Del Valle Carbajal
  • 15m
The excursion departs by bus from Ushuaia along National Route No. 3 heading north after having picked up the passengers at their respective hotels. Once the Beagle Channel is behind, the gigantic sight of the Olivia and Cinco Hermanos mountains appears. Then the Carbajal valley, made up of an immense peat bog, which is exploited for commercial purposes. Continuing along the road, you will see several valleys on both sides of the route where different activities are carried out in winter (such as sleighs pulled by huskies, snowshoe walks, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling).

On our next stop we will visit the Harwen winter resort (except Mondays), home of the national snow sculpture festival. It is also part of the final section of the provincial cross-country skiing trails. It is also home to the southernmost artisanal Gin distillery in the world. We will learn about the production process of this spirit that was born in the Middle Ages and we will have the opportunity to do a tasting. Next to the distillery there is a small museum where the history of national motorcycles from the 1950s is exhibited, with the legendary Puma, Tehuelche, Siambretta, etc.; and the experiences of the pioneers on long trips linking the south and north of the continent.

Arriving at the highest point for crossing the Andes mountain range in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, we will be in front of the Garibaldi Pass (the only place in the country where crossing the Andes mountain range does not imply crossing a border, we continue through the same national territory). This is a panoramic point with spectacular views of the Escondido and Fagnano Lakes and the old National Route No. 3 in a setting of Andean Patagonian forest, a landscape of impressive beauty.
Escondido Lake (Pass by)
The journey continues along the route until passing by the Bronzovich sawmill, an active and large site on the coast of Lake Escondido.
Lago Fagnano (Pass by)
We will reach Lake Fagnano, where we will descend again to appreciate and understand the enormous magnitude of the lake, one of the largest in South America, more than 100 km long and 7 km wide. On the way back to Ushuaia, we will stop at one of the winter resorts and have time to have lunch with a typical dish of the area: El Cordero Fueguino a la estaca (lunch not included). After dessert, there will be a moment of relaxation and then we will resume the last 20 km towards Ushuaia, arriving around 4 pm.
