Discover the El Encanto Nature Reserve, a natural paradise within the Cueva de los Guácharos National Park, Colombia's first national park. This area, recognised by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve, is a fluvial star and a treasure trove of biodiversity that preserves the high Andean forest.
We'll start early in the morning from San Agustín and drive about 1.5 hours towards the village of Palestina, which will take us to the reserve.
This biodiversity reserve is home to over 270 bird species, including 7 endemic ones, as well as more than 200 orchid species. On the 4 birdwatching trails, you'll find infrastructure specially designed for observation, such as observation towers, “hides” for quiet observation, and feeding stations that have attracted and protected numerous species through more than a decade of dedicated conservation work.
You'll also have the chance to visit a stream that flows through the reserve and enjoy a refreshing dip in the river.
The activity lasts about 8-9 hours, from departure in San Agustín to return, and is ideal for both experienced birdwatchers and beginners.
To fully enjoy this experience, we recommend bringing sun cream, rain gear, insect repellent, and comfortable hiking shoes.
