What you can expect
Welcome to Langa, Cape Town’s oldest township. Today we walk through its soul—from art to activism, street food to stories. Let’s begin.
STOP 1: Guga S’thebe Cultural Centre
Where art meets community. This vibrant space showcases local artists and celebrates African heritage.
Walk through Mendi Ave & Moshesh Ave
Feel the rhythm of Langa’s streets as we make our way to our first taste of tradition.
STOP 2: Waya Rostile
Enjoy traditional roasted bread—crisp outside, soft inside. Simple, timeless street food.
STOP 3: Eziko Culinary School
Try warm, freshly baked scones served with jam, cheese, or butter—while supporting local youth training in culinary skills.
STOP 4: Licks Tavern
Not just a tavern. This was a secret meeting point for anti-apartheid activists. Here, the walls still echo with courage.
STOP 5: Nomzamo Butchery
Classic township combo: pap, chakalaka, and sausage. Spicy, hearty, unforgettable.
STOP 6: Seven Colours
(Xhosa Sunday Dish). This stop serves a traditional feast of meats, vegetables, rice, and sides—a colourful Xhosa Sunday tradition.
STOP 7: Kwa Amanda
Feel the flame. Enjoy fresh lamb grilled over open coals—smoky, juicy, and full of soul.
STOP 8: Sozito Fisheries (Angolan Restaurant)
Fish and chips, African-style. Fried fresh, served hot, with a coastal twist.
FINAL STOP: Dompass Museum
We end with reflection. The first Dompass Museum tells the storey of struggle, resistance, and the identity documents that shaped lives under apartheid.
