Know before you book

    • Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller

    • We will discuss the specifics of the start time of the tour and pickup at your lodging a day or two before your reserved tour date.
    • Please bring the following:
    • Weather appropriate layers, temperatures in the Autumn can easily dip down into the teens at night. Day temps are generally in the 50's Fahrenheit.
    • Waterproof hiking shoes or Winter Boots. Please do NOT wear trainers.
    • Sunglasses
    • Hat, Gloves and Extra Socks
    • Bug Spray, just in case
    • Torch or headlamp
    • Water bottle, snacks, and personal items.
    • Camera and tripod for night sky photography (optional). Rentals also available.
    • Make sure to bring your great sense of adventure!
    • This tour is not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Although this tour is very safe, younger children tend to get bored easier on a multi-hour road trip. Please call to discuss specifics, we may be able to make exceptions.
    • This tour is not suggested for anyone with severe mobility issues. We will be in and out of a vehicle often and walking on uneven terrain. Please call to discuss any mobility issues before booking, to see if we can safely accommodate you.

Day 1: Departure From Fairbanks

Fairbanks

  • 2h
Pick-up between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM from your Fairbanks lodging. Scenic drive southwest through the remote landscapes of the Parks Highway and the small communities of Nenana, Healy, and Cantwell. Looking for wildlife along the way of course. Unlimited photo stops as requested. Once on the Denali Highway; Afternoon of wildlife viewing, photography, guided wild berry picking, and hiking. Learn about local flora, foraging ethics, and traditional uses of the berries. We can also do a little prospecting and gold panning! Arrive at the Lodge in early evening, settle in, and have dinner at the on site restaurant. Then we wait for darkness and begin stargazing and aurora viewing (weather permitting).

Day 2: Get Breakfast and leave The Lodge by Noon

Maclaren Glacier

  • 2h
This day will be spent looking for more wildlife, and talking in the vast landscapes. We may be able to take a boat tour from the Lodge up the river to the McLaren Glacier, weather dependant. Search for minerals, crystals, and rock specimens in a geologically rich area. Receive a short geology lesson and tools for identifying your finds. Once everyone is ready we will start our journey back north to Fairbanks. Driving the Richardson Highway, and the small communities of Paxson, Delta Junction, and Salcha.
