Are you in the Cantabrian capital and looking for an excursion that immerses you in the history and architecture of its surroundings? This tour is the perfect choice for you! At the indicated time, we'll meet at the bus stop of the Santander Maritime Station and head to our first stop: the Neocueva de Altamira. During the trip, we'll give you a detailed itinerary with recommendations and essential information about each place we'll visit.
Once we reach the Neocueva de Altamira, you'll be amazed by the life-size replica of the famous caves. This Palaeolithic site, recognised as one of the most important in the world, holds impressive cave paintings that will transport you directly to prehistoric times. Did you know that its discovery in 1868 was completely accidental? You'll have free time to explore this fascinating museum and research centre.
After our visit to Altamira, we'll head to Santillana del Mar, a charming town that cherishes centuries of history and an exceptional architectural heritage. You'll have free time to explore the village at your own pace. We recommend strolling through its historic centre, nicknamed the “Villa de las Tres Mentiras” (Town of Three Lies). Among its picturesque cobbled streets, you'll discover authentic architectural gems such as the impressive Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana, the majestic Velarde Palace, and the historic towers of Merino and Don Borja. It'll be like taking a real trip back in time!
Later, we'll head back to our vehicle to go to Comillas, a town that stands out for its modernist character. To start, you'll have the chance to recharge your batteries by enjoying lunch on your own at one of its lovely restaurants. With your batteries recharged, we strongly suggest you delve into the fascinating Capricho de Gaudí, a masterpiece by the famous Catalan architect. You can also explore the majestic Sobrellano Palace, the imposing Pontifical University, and the lively Plaza del Corro Campíos. Get ready to take lots of photos!
Finally, we'll head back to Santander, wrapping up this full-day excursion 10 hours after we started.
