What you can expect

Embark on one of Jordan’s most iconic long-distance trekking adventures by following a section of the Jordan Trail from Dana to Petra. This multi-day wilderness trek combines dramatic mountain scenery, remote desert landscapes, ancient Bedouin routes, archaeological heritage, and local hospitality, offering an unforgettable experience for adventure travellers and experienced hikers.

Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from Amman towards Dana Village, located on the edge of Dana Biosphere Reserve. From here, the trail descends into Wadi Dana where towering sandstone cliffs, deep valleys, and colourful rock formations create one of Jordan’s most impressive natural landscapes. Along the route, discover ancient Roman copper mining remains and historic caravan paths once used by traders and shepherds for centuries. The trail continues towards remote desert scenery leading to Wadi Malaga, where your first wild camping experience awaits beneath the stars. Enjoy a traditional Bedouin-style dinner and overnight camp surrounded by wilderness.

On the second day, continue trekking across isolated desert plateaus and ancient Bedouin routes with panoramic views over Wadi Araba and the surrounding mountains. Pass through areas including Jabal al-Hamra, Wadi Barwas, and Wadi al-Jilf while experiencing the silence and beauty of Jordan’s southern desert landscapes. Follow a historic donkey and camel trail once connecting Bir al-Saba with Shobak before descending towards the spring-fed valley of Wadi Feid, one of the last reliable water sources before Petra. Dinner and overnight wild camping take place near Ras Al-Feid.

Day three continues through vast sandstone terrain and remote desert landscapes where hikers encounter hidden canyons, Bedouin camps, grazing sheep, seasonal vegetation, and small agricultural plots. As the trail approaches Little Petra and the ancient Nabataean settlement of Beidha, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic with narrow sandstone passages and impressive rock formations. Another evening of wild camping allows guests to fully immerse themselves in the wilderness experience.

The final trekking day follows the Petra Back Door Trail, considered one of the most rewarding ways to enter Petra. Hike through Wadi Ghurab surrounded by towering sandstone mountains before following ancient Nabataean steps carved into the cliffs. Suddenly, the magnificent Monastery appears before the trail descends deeper into Petra. Continue exploring highlights including the Royal Tombs, Colonnaded Street, the Treasury, and the Siq before transferring to Ammarine Camp for dinner and overnight stay.

On the final morning, enjoy breakfast before returning to Amman. This trek is ideal for experienced hikers seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure combining challenging hiking, wild camping, cultural encounters, sustainability-focused travel, and Jordan’s natural scenery.
