See Hakodate change from a historic port city by day into one of Hokkaido’s most atmospheric nightscapes on this private 8 to 10-hour sightseeing journey. Designed for travellers who want to experience the city at a comfortable pace, the route brings together historic streets, waterfront scenery, local food, samurai-era heritage, and the famous evening view from Mount Hakodate.

This is a private charter experience for your group only. Travel between Hakodate’s widely separated, following fixed public transport schedules, highlights or carrying shopping bags between stops. Your driver-guide will assist with route communication, timing, and basic local information throughout the day.
Our tour route includes: Hakodate Morning Market, Motomachi Street, Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse, Goryokaku, and Mount Hakodate.
Depending on your preferred route and pickup time, the day may begin at Hakodate Morning Market. Walk among seafood stalls, local produce shops, small restaurants, and lively market lanes. You may choose to taste fresh seafood, enjoy a rice bowl, try grilled specialities, or simply explore the local atmosphere.

Continue to Motomachi, where Hakodate’s international port history remains visible in its churches, Western-style buildings, stone walls, and sloping streets. Walk along Hachimanzaka or another nearby slope and look down towards the harbour. The combination of historic architecture, hillside streets, sea views, and changing light creates one of Hakodate’s most recognisable scenes.

You may stop near the Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward, Hakodate Orthodox Church, former consulate buildings, or other landmarks in the historic district. This part of the tour is ideal for relaxed walking, photography, and discovering the cultural blend that shaped Hakodate after the port opened to international trade.

Continue to the waterfront and Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse. The red-brick buildings, canal-side views, and nearby harbour create a different mood from Motomachi, while still reflecting Hakodate’s maritime history.

The route then moves from the old port to Hakodate’s samurai-era history at Goryokaku. Walk through the star-shaped fort grounds and enjoy the seasonal landscape, from cherry blossoms and fresh greenery to autumn colours and snow-covered scenery. Guests may choose to enter Goryokaku Tower an elevated view of the fort’s distinctive shape and the surrounding city.

Your journey finishes around Mount Hakodate as daylight fades and the city begins to illuminate. The summit offers wide views across the narrow city, harbour, and surrounding coastline. Watching Hakodate change from afternoon light to evening is one of the most memorable parts of the route.
