Day 1 – Humantay Lake You will be picked up in the morning at your hotel in Cusco and continue on a 2-hour trip enjoying the beautiful landscapes until you reach Soraypampa. Enjoy breakfast before the trailhead. Begin your adventure along a photogenic trail called “Camino Real,” as you gain altitude. Continue for another hour and a half, ascending 1,200 feet/360 metres in just 2 miles on a steep trail. After conquering the last hill, you will see a turquoise lake, surrounded by steep peaks and an impressive glacier. The hike is dominated by Salkantay Peak, one of Peru's most sacred mountains, rising to over 6,000 m/20,600 ft with a steep, snowy face. The equally impressive Humantay Peak, rising 5,900 metres/19,412 feet, is also in view. Once on shore, enjoy, relax and take pictures. When you are ready to return, you will descend to Soraypampa for lunch. After lunch, it is time to take transport back to city centre Cusco arriving in the late afternoon. Day 2: Rainbow Mountain Today you will visit the modern Rainbow Mountain, famous for going viral on social media. Located in the southeast of Cusco in the middle of the Andes mountain range. After morning pickup from your hotel, venture out on a 3-hour drive passing through valleys, rivers, mountains, and some smaller communities. Arrive at Hanchipacha, to enjoy breakfast, then head to the starting point which is already at 4900 metres above sea level. From here you will walk uphill for about 45 minutes to the highest point of the excursion at 5000 metres. Pass the unique formations of the Rainbow Mountain Range and enjoy the impressive views of the snow-capped Ausangate, the second highest in Peru. Once at the top of the viewpoint, you will have the Vilcanota Mountain Range in front of you. Have plenty of time to rest and take photos. After exploration, return to Cusipata and enjoy a rewarding lunch. Take the bus to return to Cusco arriving in the late afternoon.
