What you can expect

he Iztaccihuatl adventure takes place in two exciting days. The first day begins with a leisurely hike from the base point to the mountain refuge, a journey surrounded by pine and oyamel forests, where you will feel the change in the air as you enter the high mountain. Upon arrival at the refuge, you will have time to rest, acclimatise and enjoy a light dinner while the sunset paints the horizon with spectacular tones.

The real adventure begins early on the second day. At 3:00 a.m., under a starry sky, you will set out equipped with torches and technical equipment. The climb in the dark is a magical experience, with the early morning chill and the anticipation of reaching the summit. As you advance, you will see how the sunrise illuminates Popocatepetl and the surrounding landscapes.

Each step towards “El Pecho”, the summit of Iztaccihuatl, is a challenge that you will overcome with the support of expert tour guides. Upon reaching the summit, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views and a unique sense of accomplishment. After enjoying the moment, we will begin the descent with breaks to hydrate and rest, closing this unforgettable experience with the return to the base point full of memories and pride for having conquered the “Sleeping Woman”.

It is important to have the right equipment and clothing, before starting we will make sure you have everything you need, the equipment you need for this trip are:

o Adequate clothing and distributed in a system of layers (thermal, intermediate and waterproof layer).
o Thermal and waterproof pants.
o Gloves, hat, and thermal and waterproof socks.
o Waterproof and cold-resistant hiking boots.
o Helmet
o Trekking poles.
o Backpack of 30-50 litres.
o Headlamp with extra batteries.
o Sunglasses with UV protection.
o Sun cream
o Sleeping bag for sub-zero temperatures.
o Insulating mattress and Sleeping bag for overnight stay in the shelter.
o Snacks and high-energy food (energy bars, dried fruits, gels).
o Water bottles or hydration system (minimum 2-3 litres).
o Crampons and ice axe.
o Gaiters (optional)
o Emergency thermal blanket
