Uyo Uyo has different stages of occupation: first by the Collagua culture (approx. 1300 AD), then by the Incas (1400 AD), and finally by the Spanish after the conquest.
Although most of the complex belongs to the Collagua period, Inca constructions are still integrated into the site.
Centuries ago, it was a major and densely populated settlement, from which the valley was strategically controlled. Its homes, shrines, and storerooms still have high rustic stone walls, built with ancestral techniques that reflect the life and organisation of its former inhabitants.
