What you can expect

Begin your journey with a peaceful stroll through Trott’s Garden in Ashburton, known for its beautifully crafted landscapes and seasonal blooms. Continue through rolling farmland to the charming town of Fairlie, where you can grab a fresh pie from the iconic bakehouse — a Kiwi road-trip essential.

As the scenery transforms, enter the Mackenzie region and stop at Lake Tekapo, home to the turquoise lake and the stone-built Church of the Good Shepherd. Then follow the famous blue waters to the NZ Alpine Lavender Farm (seasonal), where you can browse lavender products or enjoy lavender ice-cream against a backdrop of purple rows and open skies.

A short drive later brings you to the shimmering shores of Lake Pukaki, offering one of the most spectacular views of Aoraki/Mount Cook. From here the road winds into the national park, leading you to the alpine village surrounded by towering peaks.

Your adventure continues with a scenic walk to the Mueller Lake Lookout and along the Tasman Valley trail. This easy, well-formed track rewards you with dramatic vistas of glacier-fed lakes, icebergs, moraine walls and New Zealand’s highest mountain. It’s an ideal introduction to the beauty of the alpine world without needing technical hiking experience.

Relax on your comfortable drive back to Christchurch, completing a day filled with landscapes that change from manicured gardens to high-country lakes and alpine wilderness — a perfect blend of nature, culture and unforgettable photo stops.

Note: Our tour starts early at 6:00 AM as it is a full-day experience. Please note that some attractions or shops may not be open at this time, so a few stops might be skipped depending on availability.
