Hi, I'm Mihail, an Italian-speaking tour guide in Chișinău. I studied and lived in Italy for almost 10 years, an experience that gave me a deep understanding of Italian culture, the Italian way of travelling, and the expectations of Italian visitors. That's why I offer tours designed not only to showcase the city, but more importantly, to help people truly understand it.
This walking tour of Chișinău is designed for those who want to discover Moldova beyond stereotypes and delve into its complex and fascinating history. As we stroll through avenues, squares, past monuments, and iconic sites, we will share the storey of how this country has been a meeting point between East and West for centuries.
We will explore the historical ties with the Roman and Latin worlds, which are still alive today in Moldova’s Romanian language, local customs, and surprising connections with Italy.
We will then discuss the era of the Russian Empire, the Soviet period, World War II, and modern independence. This eventful history has left tangible marks on the city’s architecture, monuments, urban planning, and the mindset of its people.
During the tour, I will show you how the Soviet past and the Latin identity still coexist in everyday life today: in the buildings, in public symbols, in customs, in the language, and in the way of looking at the world.
My goal is not only to guide you through the streets of Chișinău, but also to help you understand the soul of a country that is often little known but rich in history, contrasts, and authenticity.
During the tour, we will also stop for a short coffee break at a special and authentic location!
The tour concludes with lunch at La Plăcinte, where I will guide you through a selection of traditional Moldovan dishes. Amidst relaxation and good food, I will tell you about Moldovan wine, our renowned wineries, and other must-see places.
Please note that lunch is not included in the tour price. On average, the cost is 15 EUR per person.
