“Etna: Pearls in the Rock” is an unconventional experience designed for those passing through Catania who want to discover Etna from every angle: nature, history, art, landscape, colour, and folklore. The tour combines scenic walks and hikes over lava flows, cultural visits, caving in lava caves and tunnels, and tastings of local products.
The adventure departs from the city and ascends the southern slope to the edge of the crater, at an altitude of over 6,560 feet (2,000 metres), with a stop at the Rifugio Sapienza area. From here, the itinerary continues according to the option chosen, providing a comprehensive overview of Mount Etna and its culture.
You can choose between two itineraries:
A) Northeast slope: Etna villages, trekking through Parco dell’Etna, lava tube caves, beekeeping, and a final tasting session.
B) West side, including the Upper Simeto Valley, Bronte, and scenic stops, with a cultural visit and short hikes along lava trails and sites associated with the “neviere” (snow wells).
This itinerary is not recommended in hot weather. The tour includes a guide and commentary; transport is provided by our own vehicle.
