Erected in 1755 by salmon fisherman, the 20-meter-long Carrick A Rede Ropebridge is suspended 30 metres over the Atlantic Ocean. The name, from the Gaelic 'Carraig-a-Rade', means ‘The Rock in the Road’, an obstacle for migrating salmon.
