The valley between the two rivers is located in the beautiful Riviera dei Cedri, a strip of land between the Lao and Abatemarco rivers, two very important waterways for the area, known since Roman times.
We will have the pleasure of discovering that our tour will take place on an ancient river delta that disappeared following the rise in sea levels and was only later returned by the sea as it receded.
We will depart from the Marcellina (CS) railway station and pass through the municipalities of Orsomarso, Santa Maria del Cedro, and Verbicaro. We will stop at the panoramic viewpoint where the Diocesan Sanctuary of San Francesco di Paola stands, after a short break to admire the view and the coast of the Gulf of Policastro, from where it is possible to see three national parks at the same time. At the end of the stop, we will resume our tour to reach the Abatemarco valley where, for the more daring, it will be possible to take a refreshing dip in the crystal clear waters of the Abatemarco stream. We will visit the ruins of the Castle of San Michele, the destination of our last visit before returning to Marcellina and saying goodbye.
