The tour takes us about 800 metres (half a mile) from Tossens Beach out into the mudflats – as far as a small tidal creek and sometimes even to an old boatwreck, which we affectionately call our “shipwreck.” Along the way, there's plenty to discover: various clams, the almost legendary lugworms, the fastest snail in the world, and even beach crabs, which like to spend the summer near the shore in the warm mudflats.
We'll explore different types of soil under our feet, and if you're feeling brave, you can even sink in really deep! Along the way, we will ask ourselves some fascinating questions: Where does all the water go at low tide? And what's the deal with the tides? Together, we'll solve this mystery!
You will be accompanied by experienced mudflat and national park guides who will explain everything to you and be happy to answer your questions.
The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours and ends back at Tossens Beach. In summer, you can comfortably walk in socks, and from November to April, you should wear boots.
The mudflats in Tossens are mostly solid. Therefore, the route is easy to walk.
