The tour of the city centre starts from Terazije Square, at the fountain in front of the iconic Hotel Moskva — a place that has long been considered one of the symbolic hearts of Belgrade, where old-world charm meets the pulse of the modern city.

From there, we will first visit Nikola Pašić Square (once known as Marx and Engels Square), a spacious urban plateau dominated by the monumental fountain and framed by imposing buildings from the socialist period. Right next to it stands the grand edifice of the National Assembly of Serbia, a building whose history reflects the political changes of the 20th century and which remains one of the most recognisable symbols of statehood.

After exploring this part of the city, we continue towards Republic Square, the main city square and the gathering place of Belgraders and their guests, a place with its dark history as well.

From here, we walk through the bohemian quarter of Skadarlija, a cobblestone street that has preserved the spirit of old Belgrade. Once the gathering place of poets, artists and famous bohemians, Skadarlija still exudes the atmosphere of late-night songs, traditional taverns, and stories that seem to linger in the air.

We then head across Dorćol, one of Belgrade’s oldest areas, where we will see the Bajrakli Mosque, the only surviving mosque in the city and a valuable reminder of its Ottoman period. Continuing further, we reach Studentski Trg, today a lively academic hub that stands on layers of ancient history.

From Studentski Trg, we walk to Kalemegdan Park. At the very entrance to the park, we will chronologically revisit the complicated and turbulent history of the city – all the way from the first Celtic fortifications, through the Roman military camp on the border, Byzantine fortifications, the first arrivals of the Slavs, Belgrade as a Hungarian border town, Belgrade as the Serbian capital of Despot Stefan, the oriental Belgrade during the Ottoman Empire, to the 20th century and modern Belgrade. Walking through the Fortress, we will also see the remnants of the mentioned periods, cultures and events, and our guides will tell us more about them.

After leaving the Fortress and Kalemegdan, we will walk to Kosančićev Venac where we will visit the Cathedral Church of the Holy Archangel Michael — a richly decorated and historically significant church, resting place of Serbian rulers and cultural figures, and one of the most important Orthodox temples in the city. We will also see the residence of Princess Ljubica, the oldest Belgrade tavern “?” (“The Question Mark”), as well as the location where the National Library used to be before it was demolished in the April bombing of 1941.

The tour concludes with a reflective stroll through the historic streets, leaving participants with a vivid sense of Belgrade’s layered past, its vibrant culture, and the stories that continue to shape the city today.
