Peaceful. Immersive. Intimate. Kayaking through the swamp is truly the ultimate swamp experience. We will be exploring some of the largest and most beautiful second growth cypress trees in the country within the historical Atchafalaya basin. Join us in our discoveries that will tap into all of your senses and come away with a new appreciation and knowledge of our beautiful Louisiana swamps, Cajun culture, and the native wildlife that dwells within.

Tandems available upon request (great for children!).

About Your Guide
Capt. Albert “Al” Wilson is the owner of Last Wilderness Kayaks & Rentals. He was born and raised in the local area and has been guiding swamp tours for over a decade. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Ecology and Management with a concentration in Wetland science from LSU. Al Habla Español.

Itinerary
Meeting Location

We’ll meet at Dales Trading Post, located at 33115 Hwy 75 Plaquemine LA 70764. Please arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start time to ensure a prompt departure. (There is a bathroom on the premises, but we are NOT responsible for the cleanliness of the bathrooms.)

Step 1: Check In
Upon arrival, our tour guide will greet you and check you in. After a brief introduction to the tour, you’ll follow your guide for a short drive (just 5 minutes) down the road.

Step 2: Launch Site
You’ll park your vehicles at the launch site. Your guide will provide a brief tutorial on paddling techniques, safety protocols, and what to expect before departure.

Step 3: Kayak Tour Begins
Your guide will assist you in safely entering the kayak. Over the next couple of hours, enjoy an unforgettable tour through the historic Atchafalaya Basin, home to some of the oldest second-growth bald cypress swamps in the country. You’ll have the chance to spot wildlife like egrets, herons, turtles, and alligators, while learning about the area’s unique landscapes, flora, and fauna.

Step 4: Return and Farewell
When we return, your guide will assist you in safely exiting the kayak, ensuring a smooth and comfortable end to your adventure.
