What you can expect

In addition to its architectural grandeur and its connection to the famous Grande Torino, the Basilica of Superga houses a lesser-known treasure of great historical value: the Royal Tombs of the House of Savoy. It is a solemn place, steeped in history, that tells the storey of a dynasty and, through it, the storey of an entire country.
In total, it houses the remains of 68 members of the House of Savoy, including kings, princes, duchesses, and princesses. Some of the best-known include:

  • Victor Amadeus II, the architect of the Basilica and the first King of Sardinia;
  • Charles Albert of Savoy, a central figure in the Italian Risorgimento and the proponent of the Albertine Statute;
  • Victor Emmanuel I, King of the Kingdom of Sardinia.
