BASEL HAS A WEALTH OF ART AND URBAN DISCOVERIES TO OFFER IN ITS PUBLIC SPACE
Basel has witnessed a blossoming of urban art and painting in public spaces. Numerous artists* have used various design techniques to adorn the cityshape with colour and form. Among them are INVADER, STEPHEN POWERS, TIKA, SIMON BERGER, STEFAN MARX and many more. Artstübli has been organising authentic urban art and graffiti tours, accompanied by artists and connoisseurs of the scene, for a proud 10 years, thus conveying this art movement from the city centre to the railway line. Understanding the city as an open-air gallery, fitting into an existing context and using artistic means to claim a territory has been one of the most important characteristics of urban art since its beginnings. Seven guides will lead visitors through the urban public museum in German, French and English, using a variety of techniques and styles ranging from street art to graffiti art, created by various national and international artists. On the one hand, the focus is on a broad spectrum of outstanding independent styles and working techniques from a wide range of art movements and personalities who, depending on the location, take up the cultural and site-specific context and effectively stage their work.
