What you can expect

  • Begin your adventure in the heart of Banff, where you’ll meet your expert guide. Based on the season and the evening’s sky forecast, your guide will select the best possible viewing location(s). Enjoy a scenic drive followed by a short walk to our dark-sky site, while learning about the area’s history, and the cultural significance of the night sky.

As darkness settles in, we walk out to our designated viewing area and prepare to be captivated by a breathtaking display of stars — and, if conditions align, the magical Aurora Borealis. While Northern Lights sightings are rare and unpredictable, we always monitor conditions closely. If the aurora does not appear, you’ll still experience a crystal-clear mountain sky filled with countless stars. Your guide will point out constellations, planets, and other celestial highlights, and help you capture stunning night photographs.

Learn about the myths and legends connected to the stars across different cultures as you take in the incredible scenery around you. The contrast of the glowing night sky against the dramatic mountain landscape creates unforgettable photo opportunities.

As the evening concludes, relax on the scenic drive back to Banff, carrying memories of an unforgettable night under the stars.

    Equipment:

    • Headlamps are provided.
    • Ice cleats are supplied during winter months for the short walk to the viewing area.

    Outdoor Viewing Conditions:
