What you can expect
Travel along the world-famous Icefields Parkway and discover a collection of the Canadian Rockies’ most breathtaking natural wonders. This journey combines glaciers, turquoise lakes, dramatic viewpoints, and unforgettable mountain scenery, making it one of the most scenic experiences in Banff and Jasper National Parks.
Your adventure begins at the Columbia Icefield Glacier Adventure, one of the largest icefields in the Rocky Mountains. Here, specially designed Ice Explorer vehicles take visitors directly onto the ancient Athabasca Glacier. Stepping onto the glacier is a rare opportunity to stand on ice formed thousands of years ago, surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks. It’s both an educational and awe-inspiring experience, offering insight into geology, climate, and the power of nature.
Nearby, the Columbia Icefield Skywalk adds a thrilling perspective. This glass-floored walkway extends over the Sunwapta Valley, nearly 280 metres above the ground. Visitors can safely walk out onto the transparent platform and enjoy sweeping panoramic views of rugged cliffs, glaciers, waterfalls, and vast alpine landscapes. The Skywalk blends excitement with stunning scenery and is designed to fully immerse visitors in the mountain environment.
Continuing along the parkway, you reach Lake Louise, often called the “Jewel of the Rockies.” Its iconic turquoise water, framed by Victoria Glacier and grand mountain peaks, creates one of the most photographed scenes in Canada. The lakeshore offers peaceful viewpoints, perfect for relaxing, walking, and capturing postcard-worthy photos. In every season, Lake Louise showcases natural beauty—from summer’s vivid blues to winter’s snowy magic.
Further north lies Waterfowl Lake, a quieter gem surrounded by untouched wilderness. Its calm waters reflect the surrounding mountains, creating mirror-like views on clear days. Because it is less crowded, it offers a serene atmosphere where visitors can truly connect with nature and enjoy the silence of the Rockies.
Bow Lake is another highlight, known for its deep blue colour and expansive views. Fed by Bow Glacier, this lake sits at the base of Crowfoot Mountain and provides a classic Rocky Mountain landscape. The wide shoreline and open viewpoints make it an excellent stop for photos and short walks.
A short drive away is Peyto Lake, famous for its brilliant turquoise colour caused by glacial rock flour suspended in the water. From the main viewpoint, the lake’s unique wolf-like shape can be seen from above. The vibrant colour and dramatic setting make Peyto Lake one of the most spectacular and recognisable lakes in Canada.
Finally, the journey includes a stop at Crowfoot Glacier, a striking hanging glacier visible from the roadside. Named for its original three “toes” of ice, it remains a powerful visual reminder of the region’s glacial history. Though it has receded over time, it still impresses visitors with its scale and beauty.
