What you can expect
Immerse yourself in the untold beauty and magic of the South-west. Take a narrated tour along the historic Apache Trail, a Canyon Lake steamboat cruise, and stop at the long-standing mining town Tortilla Flat, as expert tour guides illustrate the Sonoran Desert like you've never seen before.
Begin your morning with a brisk walk along the Apache Trail – a historic stagecoach line named after the native Apache people. Here you can see the only part of the world where the famous saguaro cactuses grow in the wild, reaching 5-15 metres (15-50 feet) high during their 150-year lifespans.
At Canyon Lake, board the Dolly Steamboat and relax in the refreshing breeze as the captain describes the geological history and distinct nature of the Sonoran Desert. Keep your eye out for wildlife such as bighorn sheep, bald eagles and a wide variety of majestic birds.
Just outside the Superstition Mountains sits Tortilla Flat – a historic gold-mining town and the last surviving stagecoach stop along the Apache Trail. Here, take a step back to what life was like at the turn of the 20th century with a saloon that uses horse saddles as bar stools and authentic 100-year-old photos.
Take a short desert walk with your guide along to point out the unique vegetation of the Sonora Desert, including majestic Saguaro Cacti.
