Spanning 162.6 hectares, the temple complex stands as a masterpiece of Khmer architecture and spiritual devotion. Originally built in the early 12th century (circa 1150 CE) under the reign of King Suryavarman II, Angkor Wat was dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, marking a shift from previous kings who primarily honoured Shiva. Its construction reflects the height of the Khmer Empire's power and artistic achievement. Over the centuries, Angkor Wat gradually transformed into a Buddhist temple, and today it remains a symbol of Cambodia’s religious harmony, blending both Hindu and Buddhist influences.

Ta Prohm Temple – The Jungle Temple of Cambodia Ta Prohm is the modern name of a serene and mysterious temple located near Siem Reap, Cambodia, approximately 1 kilometre east of Angkor Thom. Built in the late 12th to early 13th century by King Jayavarman VII, the temple was originally named Rajavihara ("Monastery of the King") and served as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university. Unlike many other temples in the Angkor complex, Ta Prohm has been left largely in the condition it was found, with massive tree roots and vines entwined through its stone walls and towers. This atmospheric setting has made it one of the most popular temples to visit in the Angkor Archaeological Park.
