The itinerary normally starts from the Lac du Chevril area, and initially climbs grassy and detrital slopes. The landscape still retains the characteristics of the high alpine valley: pastures, rocks shaped by glaciers, and vegetation that gradually becomes sparser.
Gaining altitude, the mountain completely changes its face. The meadows give way to scree slopes, smoothed rocks, and glacial moraines. The horizon widens and the great surrounding mountains begin to appear.
The upper part leads towards the Grande Sassière Glacier.
The ascent continues towards the summit ridge. The panorama becomes spectacular in the last few metres: the Isère valley opens up behind, while the great peaks of the French and Italian Alps emerge around. On clear days the gaze can range from Mont Blanc to Gran Paradiso, up to the mountains of the Vanoise and the distant peaks of the western Alps.
