What you can expect

  • Begin your hike in Torricella Peligna, the hometown of Ettore Troilo, a key figure of the Abruzzese Resistance. Walk through the streets and most emblematic places of the village: the library dedicated to John Fante, the monument to civilian victims, and the pine forest—spaces deeply imbued with collective memory and meaning.

As you continue along the trail, be surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and unspoiled nature. Pass through the area known as La Guardata, and reach the small hamlet of Fallascoso, where you will recount the battle fought in the spring of 1944 between German forces and the men of the Resistance.

In these places, marked by dramatic and decisive events, have the opportunity to identify with those who lived through those moments—your grandparents, parents, and families who endured one of the hardest periods of history.

The Maiella, long known as the “Mother Mountain,” will be the true protagonist of the day. Discover how the forest—often associated with darkness or the unknown—was instead a place of refuge, protection, and salvation for local communities and for those who found themselves along the Gustav Line.

Continuing your journey, reach the archaeological site of Iuvanum, once a major centre of the ancient pre-Roman people known as the Carricini. In this evocative setting, enjoy a convivial break, tasting traditional products from the Carricini lands, before continuing with a guided tour of the archaeological site.
