Al Bithnah Fort
10m
Al Bithnah Fort is one of Fujairah’s most prominent historical landmarks, located in the village of Al Bithnah about 13 km west of Fujairah city. Built in 1735, the fort was constructed to guard the strategic Wadi Ham pass, a vital trade and travel route through the Hajar Mountains.
The fort is built from stone, mud, and plaster, featuring high defensive walls and circular watchtowers that offered protection against invaders. It played an important role in regional conflicts, serving as both a military stronghold and a symbol of power for ruling tribes.
Today, Al Bithnah Fort is preserved as a cultural heritage site and offers visitors a glimpse into the UAE’s rich history. Surrounded by palm groves and mountains, it provides a picturesque backdrop for photography and a deeper understanding of the Emirates’ architectural and defensive traditions.
Fujairah Museum
30m
Fujairah Museum, located near Fujairah Fort, is one of the UAE’s most important cultural attractions showcasing the region’s rich heritage. Established in 1991, the museum houses a fascinating collection of archaeological finds, traditional artefacts, and historical items discovered in Fujairah and its surrounding areas.
The exhibits include Bronze Age weapons, pottery, coins, and tools dating back thousands of years, along with displays on traditional Emirati life such as fishing, farming, weaving, and weaponry. The ethnographic section highlights local customs, costumes, and daily life of the past.
Sheikh Zayed Mosque - Fujairah
1h
The Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Fujairah is one of the largest and most beautiful mosques in the United Arab Emirates. Opened in 2015, it was named after the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The mosque can accommodate around 28,000 worshippers and is an architectural masterpiece inspired by Ottoman and Moorish designs. Its striking white domes, elegant minarets, and intricate interiors make it a landmark of Fujairah city. The prayer halls feature grand chandeliers, ornate Islamic calligraphy, and expansive marble courtyards that reflect the spiritual and cultural heritage of the region.
Located on Sheikh Zayed Road, the mosque not only serves as a centre of worship but also stands as a symbol of unity, faith, and tradition in the emirate of Fujairah.
Fujairah Historic Fort
1h
Fujairah Fort is one of the UAE’s oldest and most significant forts, built in the 16th century and later restored after damage in the early 20th century. Made of mud brick, gravel, and gypsum, the fort features three watchtowers and a square hall, and it once served as both a defensive stronghold and the residence of the ruling family.
Adjacent to the fort is the Heritage Village, which recreates traditional Emirati life. Here, visitors can explore models of old houses, kitchens, and irrigation systems (falaj), along with displays of tools, weapons, and handicrafts that reflect the emirate’s cultural heritage.
Together, Fujairah Fort and Heritage Village offer a glimpse into the history, architecture, and lifestyle of the region, making it a must-visit site for those interested in the UAE’s past.
