Follow the footsteps of a World War ll escapee fleeing occupied France towards Spain meeting in Tarascon sur Ariege
DAY 1 Begin your adventure in Tarascon sur Ariegè, after arriving from Toulouse airport, or elsewhere in France. We will pick you up at the train station in Tarascon sur Ariegè where you will make your first contact with your guide. In the early afternoon, you will visit the Chemin de la Liberté Museum or Tarascon open-air Memorial and walk into the Louis Barreau Memorial. This activity includes about 4 hours of trekking to reach Aunac. You will spend your first night at a hotel in St Girons or Seix. Toulouse pick up on request as a supplement.
DAY 2, You will walk into the Subera Refuge which sits at (1,449 m) - a wild camp site used in WW2. After lunch you will climb to the crash site of the Halifax bomber (2,100 m). This remote location highlights the dangers and conditions escapees had to face. After spending the at Subera camping or inside the primitive refuge. This included about 7 hours of trekking and about 900 m height gain. If anybody would like to stay in the wild camp during the visit to the Halifax bomber this is possible.
DAY 3 On the final day we descend from the campsite and you will be transferred to either Foix or Tarascon sur Ariège train stations. Airport or Toulouse transfer available on request for groups.
