Overview

  • Join us on an unforgettable journey up Acatenango Volcano, the third-largest in Guatemala! Day 1 entails an exhilarating hike covering 80% of the volcano's terrain, lasting around 6 hours. Witness the awe-inspiring eruptions of Fuego Volcano as you warm up by the campfire at base camp. At night, opt for an optional tour to get up close to Fuego's eruptions (additional cost applies).

    Day 2 begins with an early rise at 3:30 am to conquer the remaining 20% of the volcano, reaching the summit in 1.5-2 hours to catch the mesmerizing sunrise. After breakfast at base camp, begin the descent, arriving in Antigua by 1:00 pm. Don't miss this thrilling adventure and the chance to witness nature's power firsthand!

    Note: This tour includes climbing Acatenango Volcano. You can opt for a tour to Fuego Volcano for Q300.00 per person, payable in cash to the local guide. Note that this is not part of the standard itinerary, so we don't provide any guarantee or insurance for this additional activity.

All camping gear, including sleeping bags, will be waiting for you at the base camp. You'll only need to bring the items mentioned above.
    • Please be aware that this is a shared tour, which may result in a slightly extended pick-up time of 30 to 45 minutes. We kindly ask that you be prepared at the scheduled pick-up time to ensure a prompt departure and avoid inconveniencing fellow passengers. Thank you for your cooperation!
    • This tour is conducted in Spanish. Our guides are from a nearby local community and speak basic English to provide general instructions.
    • Café Condesa is a well-known café in Antigua and serves as our meeting point. Our offices are located outside Antigua, near the base of Acatenango Volcano.
    • After meeting at Café Condesa, we’ll take you to our office for gear distribution and a brief orientation. Please follow all instructions carefully.
    • Acatenango: high difficulty (8/10), ~5-hour hike. Fuego: very demanding (10/10).
    • Weather changes quickly; be prepared for sun, cold, wind, and rain. Bring waterproof gear and keep belongings in plastic bags.
    • Luggage can be stored free of charge at our office (not Café Condesa)
    • Trekking gear and porters available for rent; paid on-site, subject to availability. Porter service: Q300 per way (paid directly)
    • Dietary needs not guaranteed—bring your own meals if required.
    • Basic restroom available (simple cabin)
    • If no availability, an alternative date will be offered
    • If you decide to stop the hike, extra cost applies for return assistance
    • Optional Fuego hike (3–5 hrs), not our service and at your own risk.
    • During high season, such as Holy Week, the Flower Festival, or any other event that closes off the city, the meeting point will be outside Antigua, as no vehicles are allowed to enter.

To kick-start the day, please get to the meeting point at Café Condesa, in the Central Park surroundings. The address is La Casa del Conde, Avenida Norte 5a, Antigua Guatemala. We recommend having breakfast before the tour to have energy for our hike. It's wise to bring along a little snack for the road, ensuring you stay fueled and ready to explore. We will give you a thick jacket, gloves, and hat for the cold weather. However, bring adequate clothing, hiking shoes, and any medicine you might need. Our picturesque route will lead us on a scenic one-hour drive from Antigua to the charming mountain village of La Soledad. Nestled on the Pacific slope of Volcan Acatenango, this peaceful haven offers breathtaking views and tranquility like no other. Get ready to embrace the beauty of nature and immerse yourself in the serenity of La Soledad.

As the morning unfolds, we'll kick-start the day with a hearty camp breakfast, fueling ourselves for the adventure that lies ahead. With renewed energy, our group will embark on an exhilarating 90-minute ascent to the summit. The trail we tread upon consists of sandy and gravelly scree, adorned with magnificent dwarf pine trees and vibrant high alpine mosses. Upon reaching the summit, a moment of well-deserved respite awaits. Here, our group can relax, soak in the breathtaking surroundings, and relish unparalleled 360-degree views of the majestic Guatemalan highlands. From this vantage point, our gaze extends all the way to the Mexican border, offering a truly awe-inspiring vista. Take your time to savor the summit, as we spend around 45 minutes (subject to conditions and time constraints) in this extraordinary setting. When it's time to descend, our group will embark on a three-hour journey back towards La Soledad.
