Double Bay in Sydney\u2019s Eastern Suburbs has long been home to high-end designer stores and fine dining restaurants. It\u2019s one of the city\u2019s most exclusive waterside suburbs but for the last few years, there\u2019s never been somewhere to stay unless you own a multimillion dollar home nearby.<\/p>\n

That all changed when the InterContinental Sydney Double Bay opened its doors on the 6th November. The first guests to grace the grand old building in its new form were treated to champagne on the rooftop, where the terrace bar, infinity pool and Hamptons-esque cabanas are the showstoppers sure to be busy this summer.<\/p>\n

Inside, the building\u2019s refurbishment is chic and sleek, with touches of the original old world glamour brought to life by the Ritz Carlton back in the 1990s. The Ritz hosted everyone from Princess Diana to President Bush in its heyday, but after a brief stint as a Sir Stamford, the site has been unoccupied for years.<\/p>\n

The multimillion dollar refurb has certainly brought the space back to life. The giant gilded mirror in the entrance is a hint of what awaits \u2013 walk up the grand staircase to the lobby area, where the Stillery gin bar (serving 60 different types of gin), a grand piano and plenty of lounges set the vibe for comfortable luxury. The arched windows in the bar are sure to be backdrop for plenty of wedding photos, and the rooftop terrace is already booking out for private events.<\/p>\n

There are just 140 rooms in the hotel \u2013 visiting VIPs will feel at home in the 200 square metre Royal Suite, with balconies, butler\u2019s kitchen, lounge, study and walk in wardrobe. Classic and Executive Rooms are the bedrooms you wish you had at home, with big windows, dark curtains and plenty of space.<\/p>\n
