Greenland’s second-largest town perches above the Arctic Circle, where awe-inspiring cruises, arctic adventures and Inuit cultural traditions await.

Experience unbeatable landscapes ranging from lofty peaks to icy rivers in Sisimiut, Western Greenland’s premier adventure destination. Whether you’re carving up powdery slopes with a dogsled, hiking to arctic peaks or fly-fishing in pristine waterways, you’ll find all-season excitement in Sisimiut. Take in a breathtaking coastline of soaring mountains and snow-dusted islands on a cruise or learn about Inuit culture in this harbour town.

Learn some local stories at the Sisimiut Museum and get some background on the town’s industrial roots and Inuit traditions. Find a world of winter adventure on your doorstep and embark on an expedition to one of the town’s surrounding summits. Dogsledding is a popular local tradition and is the perfect way to take in views of the icy landscapes. Go on a short trip or experience the 3-day ride to Kangerlussuaq. Try snowmobiling or cross-country skiing on the powdery slopes. A well-known cross-country ski event in the area is the Arctic Circle Race, which traverses pristine Greenlandic terrain in a 3-day dash.

If you’re visiting in summer, you’ll find limitless mountain trails that present fantastic sea views. Hike to the abandoned settlement of Assaqutaq, climb to the peaks of Palasip Qaqqaa and Nasaasaaq or walk to viewpoints that look out over the Ice Sheet. Keen anglers can hook Arctic char in pristine mountain streams and fjords or go sea fishing in the Davis Strait ocean waters.

At any time of the year, you can go on sightseeing cruises that range in length from hours to days. Visit neighboring towns or cruise to the cool waters of the Arctic Circle. See the awe-inspiring northern lights on clear winter nights or experience the midnight sun on endless summer days.

Reach Sisimiut via its airport or harbour, which is accessible year-round. Flights bound for Sisimiut depart from Kangalussuaq, Nuuk, Ilulissat, Maniitsoq and Aasiaat. The small town is easy to explore on foot however, there is a local bus that loops the town at regular intervals. Taxis and dogsleds are also popular transportation options. With all-season adventure and cultural discoveries, Sisimiut is an exciting destination at any time of the year.
