We had an incredible stay at the Essex House last week with our two kids (one is 7 and the other turned 4 on our trip). We booked the king suite, thinking that even though it's NYC and the room will likely be small, it would be the best option for a family of 4. We were SHOCKED at the size of the suite! Not only was it enough room for all of us, it was downright roomy! We had plenty of space for our stay. The amenities and cleanliness of the hotel are superior, room service was delicious (if expensive), and best of all...the guest relations team sent a special surprise gift to our room for our 4 year olds birthday. They sent him balloons, two pieces of cake, and a bag full of stuffies and goodies. He was THRILLED and we were so touched by the thoughtfulness. Both of our kids have already asked if - not only can we go back to New York - but can we stay at the Essex House again! The location was incredible and overall the Essex House played a big part in how wonderful and effortless our trip was. Already looking at dates in the Spring to visit again! Thank you Essex House and your wonderful staff!

We enjoyed the location and brooding lobby vibe of the property when we walked in from 29th street. A longer than usual line at the desk on a Sunday afternoon was discouraging. Up the elevator to our Deluxe Queen room, we exited into a clean, dimly lit hallway whose shabby-chic coloration and stencil lettering signage was of-a-piece with the guest room. Inside the room (spacious enough and well lit during the day, but darker than I'd like at night) we encountered cleanliness and old fashioned, 20th century charm from what appeared to be authentic finishes. Many of the rooms appointments, however, were non functioning, such as the record turntable connected to a small desktop preamp and radio and the mounted craning desk lamp whose swivel head was non-functional. There were other trips down to the desk for items that never materialized over the 3 day stay, though they were always polite at the desk. The basement gym was clean and had a coziness of home gym on a wood floor. Machines were in good repair, too. The cafe in the lobby served (and warmed) nice pastry like croissant and pain au chcolat, and the coffee (drip or espresso drinks) were all very high quality. You can easily get anywhere from here. I'd stay here again.

The front desk was very helpful. They gave excellent recommendations for local eateries. Also, they looked up the directions to help us get to our event efficiently. Would definitely stay again

This is by far the worst hotel I’ve stayed at thank good it was only a day l. The toilet didn’t flush and the two remotes to the tv didn’t work so I had no tv. And to top it off I was locked out of my room customer support saying my room was 307 when I was in 311 the whole night so they locked my door till a front desk person I assume came. I waited an hour for them to come. Never again will I come here. I deserve a credit or partial refund for the inconvenience.
