The Expedia Rewards program ("Program") is offered to Expedia.co.nz customers at the sole discretion of Expedia, Inc., and is open only to individuals who are eighteen (18) years of age and older, have a valid email address, and have enrolled in the Program ("Member(s)"). By participating in the Program, Members can earn Expedia Rewards points ("Expedia Rewards points" or "Points") for booking and completing eligible travel through Expedia.co.nz; and can redeem available Points for certain travel rewards, subject to these Terms and Conditions and the availability of eligible travel and reward items. In order to earn Expedia Rewards points, eligible travel must be completed. This means that you, the Member, stayed in the hotel you booked, flew your flight itinerary, used the rental car you reserved as a part of your holiday package, or attended the event for which you booked and paid. The terms "you" and "your" throughout these Terms and Conditions refer to any Member and any customer eligible to participate in the Program.
Membership in Expedia Rewards is void if prohibited by law in the state or country of the Member's residence, and subject to change as may be necessary to comply with such laws or regulations.
Expedia may at its sole discretion modify any of the Terms and Conditions governing the Program—including, but not limited to, the rules for earning and redeeming Expedia Rewards points, the expiration policy for Points and the products and services on which Points may be earned and redeemed—at any time, with or without notice, even though these changes may affect your ability to use any Points or benefits you have already earned. Expedia reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any Member it finds to be tampering with the operation of the Program or to be acting in breach of these Terms & Conditions or in a fraudulent or deceptive manner. Any attempt by any Member to undermine the legitimate operation of the Program may be a breach of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made or threatened, Expedia reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Failure by Expedia to enforce any of these Terms & Conditions shall not constitute a waiver of that provision. Expedia makes no guarantees, warranties, or representations of any kind concerning the Program, except where a particular guarantee or warranty cannot be excluded under applicable law. In this regard, you may have certain rights under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act known as "consumer guarantees". These rights include (but are not limited to) guarantees that the services supplied by Expedia will be carried out by us with due care and skill and will be reasonably fit for the purpose disclosed. Nothing in the Terms and Conditions is intended to exclude or restrict any non-excludable rights any Member has under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act.
You release Expedia and its affiliates and partners from all liability regarding the earning, redemption, and use of Expedia Rewards points, including any rewards that, after receipt, may be lost, stolen, or destroyed. Expedia suppliers are in no way affiliated with or responsible for Expedia Rewards Program administration.
The Program has no predetermined termination date and may continue until such time as Expedia decides to terminate the Program. Expedia may terminate the Program at any time. Upon termination, you will have ninety (90) days from the date Program termination is announced to use available Expedia Rewards points remaining in your account. After that date, any Points will be forfeited without compensation.
It is a condition of membership to the Expedia Rewards Program that a Member consents and authorises Expedia to collect, use and disclose the information collected by Expedia for the purposes of:
- Expedia or any of its related bodies corporate, providing products or services, including the awarding of Points to Members;
- Expedia or any of its related bodies corporate improving customer service, including by means of research, marketing, product development and planning;
- Expedia marketing its products or services or the products or services of third parties; and
- any third party providing services to Expedia, any of its related bodies corporate or Members in connection with the administration of the Expedia Rewards Program.
Your continued participation in the Program constitutes your acceptance of any changes to these Terms and Conditions. You are responsible for remaining knowledgeable as to any changes that Expedia may make to these Terms and Conditions. The most current version of these Terms and Conditions will be available on the website at www.expedia.co.nz/rewards and will supersede all previous versions of these Terms and Conditions.
You must have an account on Expedia.co.nz in order to enroll in the Program. To earn Expedia Rewards points for a booking on Expedia, you must be an enrolled Member of the Program prior to making a booking and be signed in to your Account prior to booking. No Points will be earned for bookings made on Expedia.co.nz when you are not signed in to your Account. If you enroll in the Program after booking but before travel is completed, Points will not accrue on that booking.
As an enrolled Member of the Program, you will receive regular account servicing updates by email. Members may opt out of participation in the Program by calling Customer Service. Your ability to earn and redeem Expedia Rewards points will be suspended after you opt out. If you opt out of Program participation, you will no longer have access to your account statement information, no Expedia Rewards points will accumulate on future bookings, and any accumulated Expedia Rewards points will be unavailable for redemption. Any Points in your Account at the time of opting out will expire fourteen (14) days from your opt-out date.
Expedia awards Points only to the owner of the Account through which any eligible booking is made. Additional individuals named as travelers on the itinerary will not earn Points. If booking a trip for another individual as a travel arranger using the Arranger Settings in your Expedia account, the individual's account you are using to book the travel will earn points for the eligible booking only if their Expedia account is enrolled in the Program and they have an active Account.
After making an eligible booking, the anticipated amount of Expedia Rewards points to be awarded will be held in pending status for a short period after travel is complete (see chart below for point confirmation timing). As mentioned above, and for the sake of clarity, "completed travel" means that you, the Member or the person in whose name the reservation was booked, stayed in the hotel you booked, flew your booked flight itinerary, used the rental car you reserved as a part of your holiday package, or attended the event or activity for which you booked and paid. Pending Expedia Rewards points are not available for redemption usage. Once in available status, Expedia Rewards points are eligible to be used by the Member for redemption purposes. The amount of pending Expedia Rewards points calculated at the time of booking is based on the details of the itinerary booked and completed. Changes or cancellations to the booked itinerary may result in differences between the estimated amount of pending points calculated and the ultimate amount of points that post to the Member's Account for that itinerary. No Expedia Rewards points will be earned for change or cancellation fees imposed by suppliers.
Expedia reserves the right to rescind or cancel at any time any pending or available Expedia Rewards points that were earned or awarded for unused travel items. Expedia Rewards points will be rescinded or cancelled in cases where a Member receives a refund, from either Expedia or a travel supplier or vendor. Points earned pursuant to fraudulent, sham or falsified information will be rescinded or cancelled by Expedia.
Expedia has the right to monitor all Member Account activity. If your Account shows signs of fraud, abuse, or suspicious activity, Expedia may close or freeze your Account immediately, and you may lose your accrued Expedia Rewards points. If you have conducted any fraudulent activity, Expedia reserves the right to take any necessary legal action and may have grounds to confiscate any rewards redeemed as a result of such activity. In addition, you may be liable for monetary losses to Expedia, including litigation costs and damages, and you will not be allowed to participate in the Program in the future. Bookings discovered to be fraudulent will not be eligible to earn Expedia Rewards points and any Expedia Rewards points already awarded in respect of the booking will be rescinded or cancelled, and the Account associated with such fraudulent bookings will be frozen from further Rewards Point earning or redemption activity. To contest freezing of an account or the rescinding or cancellation of Expedia Rewards points, please call Expedia Customer Support on 0800 998 799.
If your Account does not reflect the correct number of Expedia Rewards points that you should have been awarded as determined by Expedia, Expedia reserves the right to augment or decrement your Point balance. If you believe your Account has been the subject of any suspicious activity, please contact Expedia Customer Support immediately. If it is determined you have been the victim of fraud, the Points you have earned may be transferred to a new Account.
Point accumulation and redemption activity can be accessed on your Rewards Activity page. Expedia Rewards Points and rewards have no cash value and may not be traded or redeemed for cash. Expedia Rewards Points must not be assigned, sold, transferred, and/or pledged by you to any third party. You have no property rights or other legal interests in Expedia Rewards Points. You are responsible for any personal tax liability that may be related to participation in Expedia Rewards and redemption of any rewards.
If a Member believes he or she did not receive the correct amount of Expedia Rewards points for a booking, the Member must contact Expedia Customer Support at 0800 998 799 within ninety (90) days from the travel end date. Expedia will make the final determination as to whether Points adjustments of any kind are justified for the travel in question. In no event will any Expedia Rewards points manually be moved from pending to available status sooner than thirty (30) days after completion of travel.
As noted above, the anticipated amount of Expedia Rewards points to be awarded are held in pending status until travel is completed and payment has been confirmed. See chart below for length of time it may take for points to move from pending to available status.

Points will be earned at the rates specified from time to time on the Expedia Rewards Benefits page located at https://www.expedia.co.nz/rewards/howitworks#benefits. Points can be earned by booking the following eligible travel items on Expedia.co.nz when signed in to your Account:
- Activities and services
- Hotel + Air holiday packages
- Car rentals with select car rental suppliers *
*Point earn is available on the following car rental suppliers: Europcar, Hertz, Budget, Alamo Rent A Car, Avis, Thrifty Car Rental, Enterprise, Sixt, Dollar Rent A Car, National Car Rental
The following travel items are not eligible to earn Expedia Rewards base points:
*Additional hotel terms: Expedia Rewards base points will be calculated based on the dollar-value of the amount paid to Expedia at the time of booking. If you use a coupon when making a booking, the value of the coupon will be deducted prior to calculating the Expedia Rewards base points. This means that if any additional amounts are payable to the hotel or other travel supplier at the time of check-in or check-out (such as city tax or a resort fee) such amounts will not be included when calculating the Points (even where such amount is included in the total displayed when booking). In addition, if you elect to "Pay Later" when making any hotel booking, or if payment for the booking is not otherwise made to Expedia at the time of the booking), the amount payable to the hotel will be converted to New Zealand dollars by Expedia for the purpose of calculating the points.
From time to time, Expedia may offer opportunities to earn additional bonus Expedia Rewards points. All applicable terms and conditions associated with the specific bonus offer must be met in order to earn bonus Expedia Rewards points for your booked and completed travel. Bonus Expedia Rewards points will be posted to your Account as pending at time of booking, and will move to available status in accordance with the point confirmation timelines noted above, unless otherwise specified in the promotion-specific terms and conditions. Bonus Expedia Rewards point offers apply to changed bookings as long as the changed booking still meets all requirements and conditions of the offer. Bonus point offers do not apply to cancelled bookings. Offers are limited to the offer recipient and are not transferable. Bonus point offers are not redeemable for cash. Void where prohibited by law.
Expedia Rewards points will not expire as long as there is a qualifying purchase or redemption activity through Expedia.co.nz on your Account at least once every eighteen (18) months. "Qualifying purchase or redemption activity" means an Expedia Rewards eligible trip or travel item which has been both booked and completed and points have been confirmed, or redemption of a travel reward through your Account. All points in your Account will expire if there is no qualifying purchase or redemption activity for a period of eighteen (18) months. Once expired, Expedia Rewards points will not be reinstated.
Expedia Rewards points can be redeemed for bookings at Expedia Rate hotels, for vouchers that can be applied to Flight + Hotel holiday packages that include a hotel stay at an Expedia Rate property, "Things to do" and for Expedia Rate “Pay Now” cars. Rewards cannot be redeemed for cash and have no cash value. Rewards cannot be combined with any other certificates, vouchers, discounts, upgrades, awards, or promotions. Rewards are offered as promotional items and are void if sold for cash or other consideration, or if altered or copied, and cannot be reissued if destroyed, lost or stolen. Rewards are not valid where prohibited by law.
Members can redeem available Expedia Rewards points to pay the partial or full cost of an Expedia Rate hotel, including taxes and fees. Points used on bookings at VIP Access hotels are redeemable at double the value of Points used for non-VIP Access hotels. Points can only be redeemed where payment is being made to Expedia at time of booking (i.e. direct redemption of Points is not available if using the "Pay Later" option).
Account holders can redeem available Expedia Rewards points for Expedia coupons in various increments ("Reward coupon") that can be applied to the cost of a holiday package limited to an Expedia Rate hotel + flight booked on Expedia.co.nz. When you redeem Expedia Rewards points for a Reward coupon in your selected amount, you will be issued a Reward coupon code. The issued Reward coupon will be deposited into the Member's Expedia Account, and can be found on the coupons page within "My Account". Once the Reward coupon code is issued, the Reward coupon may be redeemed by the Member. Any terms or conditions applicable to each Rewards coupon will be confirmed at the time of issuance. Redeemed Expedia Rewards points will be deducted from your Account at the time the Reward coupon code is issued. No Rewards Point amounts or reward availability is confirmed until the required number of Expedia Rewards points has been deducted from the Member's Account and the Reward coupon is issued.
Reward coupons can only be redeemed for holiday packages limited to a booking at an Expedia Rate hotel on Expedia.co.nz + a flight booked on Expedia.co.nz, and only where payment is being made to Expedia at time of booking. Reward coupons will be applied first to the hotel portion of the holiday package, then to the flight portion of your package, less any taxes, fees or charges due on the holiday package. Please note: Any amount of the coupon applied to the flight portion of the package will be refunded to your credit card after your purchase is confirmed, usually within 10 business days. A Reward coupon can only be applied to one (1) holiday package and one hotel room per booking. A Reward coupon cannot be used for booking multiple rooms on the same itinerary. Reward coupons have no cash value. Reward coupons may not be combined with or applied to any other certificates, upgrades, awards, or coupons. All taxes, fees, charges, and surcharges applicable to the booking, including, without limitation, baggage fees, seat upgrades, extra person, parking, phone, and other charges that are applicable to the reservation are the responsibility of the traveler, and Reward coupons cannot be applied to such amounts. Reward coupons cannot be applied to the cost of cancellation or change penalties, prepaid reservations, administrative fees, or other miscellaneous charges. Void where prohibited by law.
No Expedia Rewards Point refunds will be issued for unused or expired Rewards coupons.
The Hotel Price Guarantee is available to Members in good standing. In the unlikely event that you find a lower rate for a hotel you have booked and paid for at time of booking on www.expedia.co.nz or through the Expedia Customer Support Centre on 0800 998 799, whether on Expedia or on another website, we will honor the lower price. Hotels booked as part of a package are not eligible for the Hotel Price Guarantee. The guarantee is subject to these terms and conditions.
Notifying Expedia of a Claim:
You may make a claim under the Hotel Price Guarantee from the time you book your standalone hotel on Expedia until 11:59 p.m. local time at the hotel's location, the day prior to hotel check-in. To make a claim, please complete this form, select your qualifying itinerary, and provide details on the lower price found, including screen shots. The lower price must be available for booking at the time you contact us, as determined by Expedia.
Must be "Apples to Apples" Comparison:
The Hotel Price Guarantee is available only for exact itinerary matches, including property, room type, rate plan, applicable refund policy, and the exact same dates of travel as booked through Expedia. The comparison must be to the same product purchased standalone through another website (i.e., not part of a hotel + air travel package).
The Hotel Price Guarantee applies only to the cost of booked travel, as presented in the Expedia search results, including any taxes and fees. The Hotel Price Guarantee is not available for bookings on websites where the property, itinerary, or similar booking details are unknown until after purchase. You must meet all requirements imposed on the lower price (if any), including, without limitation, residency, regional, and age-related requirements.
There is no limit on the number of Hotel Price Guarantee claims you may make per booking. However, any credit subsequent to the initial credit will be based on the amount of the previously credited price, not on the amount of the original price that you booked.
Comparison Rates Must Be Available to the General Public Online:
The Hotel Price Guarantee applies only to prices both advertised and available to the general public on a website. For example, this does not include rates offered on membership program websites; corporate discounts or rates; group, charter, rewards program, incentive, meeting, convention, consolidator, or interline prices; prices obtained via auction or similar process; or prices available only by using a coupon or other promotion not offered to the general public. The lower rate may not come from a website where you call to get the rate or from an e-mail that you received. The rate must be quoted and booked in New Zealand dollars (and without reference to currency converters).
Verification of Claims:
All requests are subject to verification by Expedia. Expedia will not accept screenshots or other purported evidence of a lower price that cannot be independently confirmed by Expedia personnel. Nor will Expedia verify any request that it believes, in its sole discretion, is the result of a printing or other error or is made fraudulently or in bad faith. Expedia will honor the lower price for verified requests. This may happen in one of several ways.
In some cases, it will take the form of a credit to the credit card used for booking. In other cases, it may be necessary for the travel specialist to cancel your booking and re-book your stay at the lower price. You will not be charged any change or cancellation fees in connection with the Hotel Price Guarantee. In all cases, the travel specialist will explain the process to you. Travel must be completed in accordance with the booked itinerary to be eligible to receive the refund or credit. Changed or cancelled bookings are not eligible to receive the refund.
Expedia reserves the right in its sole discretion to modify or discontinue the Hotel Price Guarantee or to restrict its availability to any person, at any time, for any or no reason, and without prior notice or liability to you. The terms that are in effect at the time of your claim will determine your eligibility under the Hotel Price Guarantee. The failure by Expedia to enforce any provision of these terms and conditions shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.
Members can redeem available Expedia Rewards points to pay for partial or full cost of a car rental where Expedia collects the payment at time of booking. This is called the "Pay Now" option after you have selected your car class.
All point redemptions and bookings are subject to availability and restrictions of the relevant travel supplier. Where points applied covers 100% of the cost of the booking, member is not eligible to earn base or bonus points on that transaction.
Members can redeem available Expedia Rewards points pay for partial or full cost of an activity where Expedia collects the payment at time of booking. All point redemptions and bookings are subject to availability and restrictions of the relevant travel supplier.
Elite status is an exclusive privilege of Expedia Rewards membership. All members enter the program with Blue status and must meet the stated elite qualification criteria. All Expedia Rewards terms and conditions apply to elite status. Only bookings made in your enrolled Expedia Rewards Account qualify toward elite status which includes Expedia Rewards Silver status and Expedia Rewards Gold status. Certain program offers and status benefits may not be available to members who are not New Zealand residents.
Expedia reserves the right in its sole discretion to discontinue or modify the Expedia elite status program (the "Elite Status Program") and/or these Terms & Conditions, or to restrict the program's availability to any person, at any time, for any or no reason, and without prior notice or liability to you.
In case of fraud or abuse involving the Elite Status Program, the Company reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to take appropriate administrative and/or legal action, including but not limited to termination of Rewards Program Membership.
Members can qualify for Elite status by:
- Staying the specified number of hotel nights valued at NZD $50 per night or more, or;
- Meeting a qualifying spend threshold on Expedia.co.nz. The following criteria must be met between 1 January and 31 December of any given year:
Silver 7 hotel room nights or NZD$5,000 in eligible Expedia.co.nz spend Gold 15 hotel room nights or NZD$10,000 in eligible Expedia.co.nz spend
Qualifying travel or activity must be completed by 11:59pm AEDST on 31 December of the qualifying year to count toward Elite status and room night. Travel that begins in one calendar year and ends the next will count toward elite status for the current calendar year and the later calendar year.
Eligible Expedia.co.nz spend for the purposes of qualifying for elite status includes hotels, flights, car rentals, holiday packages, and activities. Elite status may be revoked at any time in Expedia's sole discretion if the travel which earned the status is not completed travel.
Once earned, elite status is valid for the remainder of the calendar year in which you qualified, the next full calendar year, and through 28 February of the following year, unless otherwise specified.
- Expedia Rewards Bonus Points: Expedia Rewards Silver members earn a 10% bonus on all base points earned.
- Exclusive hotel amenities: Silver members receive exclusive amenities on property at participating VIP Access hotels. Amenities vary by property. Hotels participating in the VIP Access hotel network that offer exclusive amenities are subject to change at any time without notice. The amenities offered by a given hotel are subject to change. - Expedia Rewards Bonus Points: Expedia Rewards Gold members earn a 30% bonus on all base points earned.

Hotels participating in the VIP Access hotel network that offer exclusive amenities are subject to change at any time without notice. The amenities offered by a given hotel are subject to change. Exclusive amenities are intended for the primary account holder and will only be extended to additional travelers booked in the Gold member's account at the hotel's discretion and availability.
- VIP Access Hotel Upgrades: Gold members receive upgrades upon availability at check-in at participating VIP Access hotels. Participating hotels can be found by looking for the VIP Access icon on Expedia.co.nz when booking. VIP Access Hotel Upgrades are intended for the primary account holder and will only be extended to additional travelers booked in the Gold member's account at the hotel's discretion and availability.
