"We opted for three nights here after 2 nights at a 5-star in old town Yogyakarta and were delighted the contrast. This was quiet and more personable. The "in-village" experience was pleasant, never obtrusive. Security and comfort were good. Though much was written in other reviews about the noise from the mosques nearby, they did not bother us at all - it was actually a nice sampling of one part of life for most Indonesians and not disturbing of our rest. "The Phoenix Hotel is beautiful and luxurious, with an open, airy feel and Asian art all over the place. The pool is very pleasant and well-used (including by my wife and me), and I also got a nice massage. Our room was nice, with a small deck overlooking the pool--though the hotel grounds are so extensive that it took a while to get there from the entry. The A/C and shower in our room worked well, but there was a problem with the shower pipes that created a loud noise and required periodically...
