Lovely property very close to a secluded beach. Very accurate to listing description. We couldn’t get the sauna to work, but having so much fun during the day forgot to ask management about it. Spent maybe an equal amount of time on the beach as in the wonderful bathroom! Great memories of first time pup at the beach.
We had a lovely time at the Zen house and honestly the spa bathroom is the star of the show. A spectacular soaking tub and sauna and perfectly hot water for a nice soak makes this the place to get away and read 4 books while a good storm rages outside. The kitchen only has salt & pepper so be sure to bring your own pantry staples or be prepared to buy everything you need to cook, and give the fridge a little extra push when you close it. Next time we will be sure to get firewood to take advantage of the fireplace, and we definitely will be back! Thanks so much.
You can tell how hard they worked to incorporate the "Zen" look and feel. Could use a face lift outside (mostly the deck) and a few more curtains but everyone was happy and comfortable. The soaker tub was soo nice and the hot water never seem to run out. The tub and sauna was a great relaxation for all of us. The garden in the back was really nice to walk through with our pup, only he would growl at the little buddha statue lol.

Zen house in Yachats
Too close to 101 (noisy), not oceanside. Severe mold/mildew in game and laundry rooms so guest room couldn't use the bathroom. Sauna and tub on main floor were nice. Wish there had been TV in living room, but TV choices bad. Road in had deep pot holes.were poor.
Property was easy to find and easy to access with lock code and check in process (had to wait until the next day, Wi-Fi was down). Noticed main rug was stained as were areas on the couch. A few spatulas in the kitchen ware had dried-on food crusties. Had to clean before using.
Being in our early 60's, I would have liked a handrail on the 1st three steps before the stairway turned 90° to continue up to the bedroom. I would have enjoyed a TV (for the rainy days) in the main living room.
Beach was close enough, about a block and a 1/2 away.
Enjoyed the large tub and used the sauna, which felt great. Shower was interesting. Worked fine, except the concrete floor was a little rough on tender feet! Looked like there was a spiral pattern of half sunk rocks in the concrete. The rocks were removed and left egg-sized divets. Didn't feel too good when the ball of your foot engaged in these holes.
The night before we left, we washed our dirty clothes in the washer. When the cycle was over, the removed clothes were caked with sand. Had to clean out the washer and rewash the clothes. Got about 1/2 a Frisbee of sand out of the washer. Obviously, the previous tenant didn't shake the sand out of their clothes before washing and the washer had lots of sand that was never cleaned out.
Never utilized the shuffleboard or the pool table, but did explore the whole home.
I know I've pointed out a few negatives, but all in all, we enjoyed our stay. The wood stove was nice.
This little adorable house was perfect for our family. The separate apartment for the kids was great for them to get their own area. The main bathroom was OUTSTANDING for relaxing after a long day of taking in the beach and visiting the surrounding areas. We highly recommend this place. Thank again for making our vacation so relaxing!!
Artistically and beautifully designed home, with just a short walk to the stunning ocean.
The deck is secluded and perfect for the evenings.
The kitchen is incredibly well stocked (my chef/mother was impressed).
We enjoyed every minute.
The house was great - close to the beach, and also a retreat itself, with a deep soaking tub and a sweet backyard, not to mention the cedar sauna, and glass-walled shower. The sunporch connecting the two bedrooms was a good space for hanging out. We're already ready to be back next year!

Our favorite place to stay in Yachats!
Our family stays in this house every summer, it's perfect! From the garden to the deck, to the soaking tub & sauna, we love it! The location is awesome, and the beach is always great. Very reasonable rate, considering some hotels are as much, with far fewer amenities. Owners & manager are very responsive to needs. House is very comfortable, and really has a "Zen" quality to it. Perfect places to read, nap, dine, and relax.

Unique, intriguing house and grounds
Great eye appeal at the Zen House, clearly a one-of-a-kind property. Marvelously and lovingly appointed, with lavish amenities. Sun deck, meditative garden, short stroll to wide, underpopulated beach. Abundant electronics (modem, two flat screen TVs with a full array of premium channels). But not a comfortable home (uncomfortably narrow doorways and stairwells, terrible beds, non-functioning sauna, cramped bathrooms).
Nice to look at, hard to stay in.

3rd stay - first time in summer
The location is fantastic and the bath is always enjoyable. Just a couple of issues if you’re staying in the summer months. Both bedrooms have high windows that do not have blinds which means you’re up with the sun. Also, the main bedroom in the loft area does not have windows that open and it actually gets pretty hot up there even when the temp outside is in the 60s.

Was disappointed in the full operation of stove some burners not working

Run down and dangerous
This property seemed nice enough online however the beds were uncomfortable (one was foam the other was two twins pushed together) the sauna didn’t work, everything was DIY looking in the house, the main floor was cold and the upstairs was hot, and to top it all off the carpet tacks stuck out on the stairs which lead to me ripping open my heel and bleeding and now having an infection. We won’t be back!
This vacation rental was the perfect hub for exploring the area and coming back to relax at the end of the day. Definitely would recommend/stay again.

Zen house far from beach!!!
It seems to be the going rate for this time of year.I wish access to beach was easier,as going down rocks to beach was tricky and we were 3 plots in from the beach as I feel was overpriced, nice beach after I figured out how to access down road 6 houses, very difficult to bring things to beach, firewood, usual beach items, if it was closer I would have rated higher!

Read description carefully. Great for one couple, not so much for two couples.
So this rental is in a nice location and it has nice amenities (the master spa bathroom etc), but there were several things that made it not ideal for our larger (two couples) group. Our issues mostly center around the fact that the 2nd bedroom is actually in the detached garage.
This fact is buried in the listing's description, and you may miss it if you're not careful. We thought it wouldn't be much of an issue, but it turned out to add friction to our vacation for several reasons.
1) The privacy in the detached second bedroom. The two doors that lead into the detached garage bedroom both have big windows in them but have no curtains! There is absolutely no privacy. From the 2nd story patio it's very easy to look into the detached bedroom. Our friends in the main house were reluctant to use the 2nd patio in fear of spying on us sleeping or changing. This seems like such a straightforward thing to fix, but really bothered us.
2) The garage bathroom. It is TINY. One person can barely get into it with the door open, two people will not fit in it. Its location is another thing mentioned briefly in the description, but turned out to be more of an issue than we thought it would be. At night, navigating a flight of stairs and then going through a garage to use the bathroom isn't fun. You may ask 'why not go to the main house?', and that leads into issue 3.
3) The logistics of the two houses. The fact that the bedroom in the main house is a loft style with no doors makes it difficult to go into the main house without waking everyone up. We were reluctant to go into the main house (in the early morning or night) as we didn't wish to disturb our friends. This just made it inconvenient to use the kitchen or nice spa.
So none of these issues would matter if you're a single couple looking too rent this place. However if you're a larger group, just re-read the description and weigh if it's worth it to your group.
Good luck!
Lacking an indoor common area for more than 4 people. Also, some of the chairs need to be replaced. Otherwise, it is well situated between Yachats, Waldport, 101, and the ocean.

The spa room is everything
Not really, while the spa room is an absolutely wonderful and unique feature of this house, the rest of the property is super comfortable and well maintained. Located on our favorite part of the coast to boot.

A peaceful retreat in a hidden gem of the Oregon coast!!
The Zen house was a wonderful retreat for myself and my sweetie. We were just a heartbeat away from cape perpetua where we hiked to the top (you can drive) for an outstanding view of the coast. We also went to several little stops right after cape perpetua Devils churn and several beaches strawberry hill to name one and found lots of agates and shells. The house is up for sale so we had tons of cars stop in the driveway and turn around and anytime we were out with the animals people stopped and asked about the place which was a bit annoying. The place does have a completely separate room but I do not feel this is a comfortable retreat for 5 people if you are looking to congregate play games as the living room truly only has comfortable seating for two. The futon is very old and I don't believe usable for an adult only a small child my family actually slept on the recliners which are extremely comfortable. The soaking tub and sauna and shower are as many have said the highlight of this home and honestly would bring me back again. The trail they talk about that is down the road away is less steep but if you have anybody who is not a strong walker as my mother was not it is jagged rocks and we all had to assist her. You have a beautiful ocean view from the top master and the windows on this room are out of this world for your morning and evening view you will not want to close the drapes. The deck is awesome and the star filled sky was spectacular. Overall my stay here was fabulous I would only recommend this place for couples personally but overall it was a spectacular vacation and I'm zen fully happy

Zen House
Aloha, My stay with me 9-year old daughter was excellent. Terrific location about a block down an unpaved road to a lovely, broad, and clean beach and only a few minutes from Yachats. The house itself was cherry--well-appointed with a fine kitchen and utensils, lovely and spacious bedrooms with quality bedding, and a comfy if cozy living room/dining room. The best was the shower, huge and deep bathtub, and sauna. Outstanding features that added to our visit. Finally, our host was very welcoming and understanding, deducting a pet fee (paid in advance) when she discovered we'd come without one. I'd not asked, mind you, she just volunteered to do it! Oh, I have to add that my young daughter especially appreciated the well-tended flower garden and separate bedroom over the garage.

An Excellent 12 Day Stay
When we first arrived, we found that we liked The Zen House very much. And as the days passed, we grew to like it more and more. The owners obviously love their place, and have added many creative touches that add to the efficiency and rustic charm of this cozy home. Immaculately clean, well-equipped kitchen, abundant electrical outlets, reliable WiFi, superb sauna and 2-person soaking tub, delightful garden, second story deck with partial ocean view, and comfortable living area. The broad, 6+ mile beach, perfect for long strolls can be accessed just 200' away, and both Yachats to the south and Waldport to the north can be reached easily on foot, especially at low tide. Zen is also perfect for dogs. Our two dachshunds loved the sights and scents of the garden, and running free on the beach. This home is a gem in our favorite part of the Oregon coast and we look forward to our next visit.

Honest Review
The online description of the house and beach access were not completely accurate. This is not a three bathroom house, as the master bath consists of only a toilet and sink (technically making it a 1/2 bath). The only shower facility in the main house is the glass block shower downstairs off the spa room. This wasn't made clear in the description or floor plan of the property. The bathroom for the studio apartment above the garage is down a long flight of stairs and in a back corner of the garage. With our vehicle parked inside the garage, the access to that bathroom was a tight squeeze along the wall. The sink and refrigerator in the studio apartment weren't operable during our stay. The cable TV never worked in the studio apartment the whole time we were there. We contacted the manager about the TV, but nothing was done to correct it. The beach access had washed out in a storm sometime ago and the only safe access was a short block away - not an issue for us, but could have been for others. The zen garden obviously needed attention as it had become overgrown. The deck and the furniture on the deck were in serious need of a good cleaning - we didn't use them at all during our stay. The bath towels were in the dryer when we arrived and the manager took them out, folded them and left them on top of the dryer in the laundry room. Certainly not the sanitized, fluffed and folded laundry service that we had been told to expect. This review sounds very negative, but we did enjoy our time at this property. We just felt it wasn't exactly as advertised and we wanted to let potential future renters know about our experience. We've rented houses on the Oregon coast in the past and we will rent them in the future. We prefer renting houses over staying in a hotel/motel. While we enjoyed our stay, given all of the issues we experienced, we probably will choose a different property the next time we're vacationing at the Oregon coast.
