Excellent accommodation will definitely stay here again. The room looked like it had been recently renovated. The bed was so comfy absolutely had a good night's sleep. Location of hotel is right opposite the town Basin. Supermarket is a minute drive which was very convenient.

Our King Superior room had "recently been updated". The bathroom was fine, but the rest of the suite felt like it had been done as cheaply as possible. It no longer had a couch in the main room but a Murphy bed instead, so there was only 4 unmatched chairs to relax in and watch TV. There was no microwave and when we went down to the kitchen to borrow theirs to make popcorn they refused to let us do it, but they set the timer for 30 seconds and then reset it for the same 3 times. More than half the bag did not pop. We asked for utensils to be brought up to the room and after an hour finally went down to retrieve them ourselves only to be told she has forgotten. They advertised a heated pool, but it was cold. A very average place to stay with poor customer service.

This place had all the facilities you needed and was close to the town, shops and supermarket. The building is a little tied in some areas but nothing bad enough not to stay there.

We loved the pool and spa for the kids, the hotel is in a great location with easy parking. Room service for dinner was delicious and the staff were very friendly at breakfast. 11am checkout on the weekend was great.

1 night stay .
First stay back here since pre covid times! Check inn was quick easy and friendly staff were great,stayed in one of the renovated rooms and can say it was a nice room although the fridge and AC unit were very noisy,the other issue was (not the hotels fault) the amount of other guests slamming doors and speaking loudly in the corridors but above all else a nice stay great location plenty of parking on site Bar/Restaurant.

The pool,spa and gym were excellent,friendly helpful staff and an easy location that was accessible to town. The room cleanliness was at best, average.Overall we enjoyed our stay although the exterior could do with a bit of a makeover

The floor in the dining room looks horrible;overdue for cleaning. Our sheets had blood on them!!, which wasn;t obvious at first until the bedlinen was peeled back when we were vacating the room to return home.Shower drain blocked, water did not disperse,yuccky !!

We loved our stay in the spacious Junior Suite. So clean and well equipped with generous toiletiries and coffee and tea making sachets. The staff at the front desk were so lovely too. Plus great location!

Average stay in less than desirable location
Our stay at Distinction was a last minute side trip during a three week visit to NZ. The location is on the outskirts of town on the river. The desk and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful. The grounds and interior common areas are worn and in need of an update. The hallway of our building had a musty smell. Fortunately, our room was clean and seems to have had a recent update. If we return to Whangarei, we would look for a hotel in town so that we could be closer to restaurant, shopping, and other activities.

Convenient location near waterfront and close to shopping area. Newly renovated rooms which included usb plugs - minor but added bonus as we needed to charge lots of devices.
