Booked this for a one night relaxation stay but sadly it was like being at Butlins but paying a lot more!!! Pool, sauna and steam room rammed full of large groups of females. So full, staff stopped people going in as we were coming out. Changing rooms weren’t very clean either. We ordered room service to avoid the packed out bar and the food was like a microwave meal.

This is a beautiful historical building. Excellent friendly staff. The only issue is that a luxury Spa Hotel is expected to offer some simple slippers or even a bath robe to guests?!

Disappointed. I booked a night here and a table at the restaurant for a quiet getaway with my partner. The parking was good and the initial impression was a lovely building and grounds. Reception was lovely and gave an impression of a luxury resort. The reception staff were extremely courteous and efficient. After that it went downhill rather. The room, although cleanly presented was rather disappointing with very limited facilities. In a spa resort I would have at least expected proper toiletries in the bathroom, even if it was just to upsell me their spa products! The biggest disappointment was most definitely the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast. I can only describe this as resembling Fawlty Towers. The bread on my starter was literally so hard it was impossible to eat (yes I have got all my own teeth) and when I explained this to the waitress she just said “oh no”. My main course was stone cold. The restaurant manager, came across and stuck his finger in it, shook his head and did send it back to be replaced. I could see the couple on the opposite table had to do the same with their food so my experience clearly wasn’t a one-off. The wine however was lovely. My partner ordered sea-bass which was poorly cooked and soggy. Breakfast saw no coffee, just a mug of milk, no glasses, teaspoons, no hot food ready, no one brought us tea as requested, we were ignored. Guests were wandering round looking for cups and cutlery. The whole thing just felt poorly managed.

Changed room As I was in 237 which is right outside the delivery area, woke up at 6 am with people shouting, bottles crashing and vans reversing, not good, changed room and all was well again

On arrival we found out the heating system in the hotel broke down. This meant cold room, cold swimming pool, freezing cold jacuzzi and showers. Im 7 months pregnant and this was our last break before delivery. Then when goining to bed we realused one if the single beds is broken which made a very uncomfortable sleep. Rather unpleasant experience

The common areas are nice but the rooms are awful, really dated and the smallest bath I have ever seen. Two beds zipped together DO NOT make a double bed. £25 an hour for late check out is a total rip off. The ‘champagne bar’ is a joke - the most miserable and uninspiring menu I have ever seen. The selection of coffee was more comprehensive than the choice of champagne, and they don’t sell it by the glass. And we were served warm wine.

In general a nice stay but the cosy room we stayed in had very naff and non matching furniture , the chair by the table had a very nasty brown mark on it which was unpleasant, this chair needs removing imo (room 241) . Our meal experience wasn’t the best as we were placed on a small table right next to a cleaning station and fire extinguisher, not very romantic for my wife’s birthday and in hindsight I should have requested a nicer table , certain staff were not very attentive either , I had prepaid their £28 for £24 offer and when the bill arrive it was for the full amount of our meal , the staff were confused when I showed them our stamped ‘dinner included ‘ card , it then took another 20 minutes before I literally had to go to the reception to pay the bill as apparently their card machine was playing up , breakfast was very nice with loads of choice . The actual building is very nice , the gardens are stunning . Don’t expect a dressing gown for the spa though as you aren’t considered important enough for one unless you pay £5 each for them which I think is very tight when you have paid nearly £200 a night ! , tbh it made me feel like a peasant, also no water in the room ! This hotel could learn a lot from the Marriott in Leeds which is where we stayed he night before .
